President signs disaster declaration for North Carolina

The president signed a disaster declaration for North Carolina tonight and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas struck by tornadoes and severe storms on Saturday.

Federal funding will be available to Bertie, Bladen, Cumberland, Halifax, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Onslow, Wake and Wilson counties, a news release from the White House said. Assistance could include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
