2. Hope so
though I think this is a planned diversion and that they really did the vote stealing in other districts - paranoid me.

12. A hand recount is the only way to go . She has to petition the court for that.
Edited on Wed Apr-20-11 01:41 PM by Ellipsis
and that depends on the judge as to whether or not she gets one.

But I would say this ...if only two additional votes for Kloppenburg is found in each ward... she wins.

8. I hope, too, that she chose the park for the announcement because she's asking for the recount.
I can't imagine she'd want to disappoint a lot of her followers in public.

5. Gore sought a recount and fought all the way to the Supreme Court
Should of attempting a coup, I'm not sure what some people believe that he should have done.

6. He should have recounated the whole state, not just a couple of counties.
THAT was where they got him. Same with Wisconsin. "Taking the high road" is a misnomer for what Gore and Kerry did. Kerry betrayed the country when he didn't protest Ohio AND Florida AND Texas AND New Mexico, which at the time, were all terribly suspect. But Kerry really didn't want to be president by the time that happened. Gore, I believe, got really bad advice from the DLC.

The high road would have been insisting that America actually install the president that they voted for, not the one that the corporate assholes who owned the voting machines and that corrupted the elections gave us.

9. Gore's mistake was poor strategy rather than not fighting hard enough

20. Gore's mistake was Joe Lieberman
He could have won Florida with a good VP candidate, instead of just pandering to some Floridians.

13. What happened to Gore had nothing to do with bad advice from the DLC.
What it had to do with was a Supreme Court that had a conclusion they were determined to reach and that then went in search of any trumped up rationalization for it they could find even if it was absurd, which it was.

If Gore had <fill in the blank> then the Supreme Court would have ruled against him due to <fill in the blank>.

14. Scott Walker's opinion on recount in that election
In 2000, George W. Bush lost Wisconsin to Al Gore by about a 6K vote margin-- a similar margin that we're talking about in the 2010 Kloppenburg v Prosser race. Ultimately, the Bush campaign opted out of challenging Wisconsin, because it wouldn't have made a difference if they lost Florida. However, its important to note that Wisconsin Republicans were unanimously in support of a recall in Wisconsin:

"Yes, I do." -Tommy Thompson, 11/17/2000 when asked if Bush should request a recount.

"With or without voter fraud, there's a slim enough margin that a recount could result in a change in the final margin." -Scott Walker, 11/12/2000

"I hope we seriously consider a recount in Wisconsin, even if it doesn't change the outcome." -Speaker of the Assembly, Scott Jensen, 11/21/2000

16. There was no provision in the State Constitution Election Law
to request a statewide recount. The only way he could have obtained one was through a Court Order or by permission of the Governor (Jeb Bush at the time.)

Gore did not want to take the bait to file a lawsuit that Baker and the Republicans were trying to egg him into doing because he (Gore) knew that a candidate obtaining the Oval Office through a Court order would be considered illegitimate by many American citizens.

11. The high road? There's nothing even remotely dishonorable in seeking a recount
in an election this close, especially considering the opacity of the process in Waukesha county.

If for no other reason than to lay it to rest. Otherwise we will never believe it wasn't stolen again.
