Fuel of the Fukushima nuke plant plant's No. 1 reactor could be melting, an official said on Wednesday at Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) , the operator of the crippled plant.

TEPCO said last week some of the spent nuclear fuel rods stored in the No. 4 reactor building of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant were damaged.

The company's workers have put iRobot PackBots to measure radiation, oxygen and temperature inside the reactor.

1. Well, this will certainly take the sheen off the rosy 6-9 month scenario . . .
they presented to us earlier this week for bringing everything under control.

2. Where's the rest of the data?
shows a spike 18 DAYS AGO!!!

Units 1 & 2 (yesterday) showed no pressure and unit 1 was at boiling (which believe it or not shows integrity) however unit 2 was almost 300C @ 1 atmosphere which indicates no water and melting (plus the fact that unit 2's discharge water contains fission products, furthur confirming a meltdown). Unit 3 is completely up in the air, holding a 150psi @ approx. 300C. the fuel pool in 4 is suspected to be a complete mess and undergoing spontaneous fission (with I-131 readings 30,000,000,000 Bq/m3 (pool water readings)

No press release on the Tepco site, nothing from world news agencies about it, can anyone substantiate this story?

12. Japan agency admits ‘melting’ of nuclear fuel

The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has reported to a Cabinet Office safety panel that nuclear fuel pellets in the Nos. 1 to 3 reactors at the quake-hit Fukushima power station are believed to have partially melted.

The report was the first time the agency, an organ of the Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry, has acknowledged that nuclear fuel has melted at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant. ...
