Senators pass right-to-work proposal 16-8
Source: Nashua Telegraph

CONCORD – Anti-union forces scored a historic victory Wednesday, as the state Senate embraced legislation that prevents non-union members from having to financially support a union.

The 16-8 vote for the House-passed bill (HB 474) was precisely the two-thirds supermajority needed to overcome an inevitable veto from Gov. John Lynch.

The bill now goes back to the House. Leaders of the lower chamber must decide if it accepts a Senate change, which strikes a provision that held unions did not have to represent the interests of those who refuse to join.

Union leaders say the House language could lead to new, ad hoc unions forming to challenge the union officially designated to collectively bargain with management.

3. States that keep Unions
will have more of the happy workers than the states who will subsequently ignore the needs of the working class and treat them like shit. Union states will have pensions and afforable health care wherein the states who have this "right to work" workers will probably have to worked for ever. These same "right to work" states are also against Medicare, Medicaid, HCR, SSI and pensions.

As a progressive I do feel for the average cirizen of the anti-union states, y'know the ones that will crush teachers' ability to teach the true history of the world and make them teach total bullshit, but hey, these people voted for the gopers who want to only have a one party system and control every part of American peoples lives and make a profit for it.

5. How do you take power away from arrogant, priveleged, shallow aristocrats?
You take their wealth away from them.

A shock general strike would break and humble them all very quickly.

7. Might break them
but I don't know if they can be humbled. The arrogance is deeply ingrained in such people. Some people aren't capable of humility or shame.

14. Thanks, I love that quote
I'd like to believe that people can reach an epiphany, where they see the error of their ways, but from what I see, that happens primarily in movies, rarely in real life. Of course I'm always hopeful. I have witnessed a few exceptions.

16. We would have to change Federal law to accomplish that
Under current federal labor law there is a requirement that the free riders are included in the bargaining unit :(

12. it's great for freeloaders
I work in an open shop where everyone gets the same representation but only those that choose to support the union actually pay dues.
