Judge orders Terry Jones to post bond for protest

A Dearborn judge today ruled that a Quran-burning pastor must pay a peace bond if he wants to protest the Islamic Center of America on Good Friday.

Judge Mark Somers of 19th District Court in Dearborn ruled that prosecutors proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Terry Jones' planned demonstration on a small median outside the Ford Road mosque could breach the pace. If Jones doesn't post the bond, he could be ordered to stand trial, Somers ruled about 3:25 p.m.

The ruling puts into question Jones' planned demonstration, which has sparked arguments about the line between free speech and public safety. Prosecutors have sought the unspecified bond — Jones said it was up to $100,000 — for extra police in fear of a riot.

The hearing comes a day after Dearborn city officials denied Jones a permit to protest on public land near the mosque citing public safety concerns. They say he could face arrest if he carries through the protest. Before the hearing, Jones — who wore a leather jacket and jeans — said he planned to proceed with the demonstration despite the permitting issues or peace bond.

2. I have mixed feelings about this...but I know one thing...

Terry Jones wants VIOLENCE to prove a point...So he is not simply exercising his right to free speech! IMHO.

However, I wish there was a way to get into the heads of the Muslims up there to simply DO NOTHING! Maybe have Law Enforcement talk to them or someone & tell them they would get the public on their side if they simply ignored Terry Jones...MLK did it & look how it turned the public to his side!!

Worth a try in my opinion.

in that area to be destructive, and prove his point of how evil the Muslims are. Jones is so full of hatred, he is not a Christian, this is not what Christianity is about. He himself is so evil, and will start up violence where I hope to God no one gets kill. By his doing, he has already caused deaths.

unfortunately, Jones holds US citizenship and we are stuck with him. Frankly, I think there are quite a few untried and very likely innocent Muslims being held at Gitmo that I'd gladly trade for Jones.
