McCain travels to Libya to meet with rebel forces

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. John McCain, one of the strongest proponents in Congress of the U.S. military intervention in Libya, is heading to the rebel stronghold of Benghazi for a meeting with forces fighting to overthrow Moammar Gadhafi, an aide told The Associated Press.

McCain was scheduled to arrive in Benghazi on Friday, said Brooke Buchanan, a spokeswoman for the senator.

The visit by McCain was shrouded in secrecy due to heightened security for the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee in a country fiercely divided by the 2-month-old anti-Gadhafi rebellion.

2. Hey John "Fiscally Conservative" McCain, how much is this trip going to cost U.S.?
We all know it's just grandstanding and you won't win in 2012, either, so what's the point?

Because he doesn't like the idea that the US has too few pilots for it's drones.

coordinate with the State Department. Here, McCain is not on a different side than the state department. (I know that when the right complained about a Dodd/Kerry trip to Syria when Bush was President, they actually had questions from Condi Rice that they were going to ask for her - as well as ones of their own. ) More disturbing was DeMint going to Honduras to meet with the people who took over in a coup while the US was still calling it a coup.

McCain is the ranking member of the Armed Services committee and that gives him oversight responsibilities there.

19. McCain: "Increase military support to Libyan rebels"
Can you spell escalation?

BENGHAZI, Libya (AP) -- U.S. Sen. John McCain called for increased military support for Libya's rebels Friday, including weapons, training and stepped-up airstrikes, in a full-throated endorsement of the opposition in its fight to oust Moammar Gadhafi.

20. So the old demented schmuck
is changing his costume.

He used to be "we are all Georgians" when his crazy georgian pal Saakashvili decided to have a little war in the Caucases.
Now he will be "we are all Lybians" or what?
I can't figure out what this loser wants from the general US public.

According to tradition, our best known war tourist duo concludes their latest warmonger tour with a heroes' welcome reception and presser at the AEI. Don't tell me John's going solo now.
