Five women brutally murdered in Mexico beach resort

Five women, all apparently connected to a beauty parlor, were found brutally murdered in the Mexican beach resort of Acapulco on Saturday morning, state police said.

The semi-naked and bound bodies of two women and a 14-year-old girl were discovered in the salon in the early hours of Saturday morning. All three had their throats slashed.

Police later found the corpses of another two women with cut throats dumped in the streets. Mexican media said both victims worked at the beauty parlor. No motive was given for the killings.

Acapulco, famed in the 1960s as a glamorous haunt for Hollywood stars, has been convulsed by drug violence in recent months as powerful cartels battle for smuggling routes, prompting the United States to warn tourists against visiting the downtown center of the resort.

2. That country is out of control.
I say that with no guilt or need to point out our flaws.
They are out of control.
Period.

3. That's what happens when a hand full of people own everything and
The entire rest of the population has nothing.
We are heading rapidly in the same direction. I'd say God help us but he hasn't helped anyone else. i don't think he really gives a shit.

5. As a travel agent....
I could not with good conscience sell anyone travel to Mexico anymore, not even on a "certain kid friendly" cruise line, as they even had a young woman not make it back to the ship last month and that was a Mexican Riviera cruise. If I can't change a clients mind about traveling to Mexico and steer them somewhere else to travel, I'll steer them somewhere else to buy their travel. It's bad there anymore and I don't want it on my conscience.

14. I remember renting a car in San Diego & driving down Baja coast
by myself in the early 90s. Unbelievable to fathom anyone, let alone a single female, doing so now.

17. I go to mexico all the time. Been going there for 25 years.
I have a little house on the Pacific coast of Baja. Lived down there full time for many years in summer, and on the coast of Oaxaca in winter. Plus traveling all around in Mexico for years. Was in Acapulco for a few days last year, been there many times.

Acapulco sucks. It is a city of over a million people, lots of crime, nasty place, don't go there. Mexico is basically safe if you know what you are doing and speak Spanish. I stay in rural areas, never have problems, nice people if you don't act like shithead tourist emanating ugly American exceptionalism".

The culture can be violent, my best male Mexican friend was brutally murdered a few years ago in an "honor" killing, but he got caught sleeping with someone's wife.

Place I was gigging at last year in Oaxaca was pretty swank but shady, I suspected it was a front for drug money. Last night I worked there I had a beer with the owner after I was done playing. Next morning someone told me that the owner had been shot in the head in the bar 15 minutes after I left. Pretty freaky.

The violence down there has escalated some, but IMO it is not as dangerous for tourists as most Americans imagine it to be. Most of the violence is directed at Mexican people that other Mexican people have some kind of problem with.

20. There is no middle class or upward mobility in Mexico. If you want to be something other than poor
you go into crime. America will be like that some day soon.
