WikiLeaks files prove I was tortured: Habib

Former Australian terrorism suspect Mamdouh Habib says he would not have admitted to planning the hijacking of a Qantas plane, because it is not true.

The WikiLeaks website has released what it says are secret US intelligence files on inmates from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, including Mr Habib and Australian David Hicks.

Mr Habib's file says he spent six months being questioned by Egyptian interrogators before being sent to Guantanamo.

Mr Habib, who was released from Guantanamo Bay without charge in 2005, says it is possible he admitted to things he did not do because Egyptian interrogators drugged him.

That really upsets some people in this country, and even at DU. Can you imagine people believing an accused terrorist over the solid word of American spooks? Why, it's just unconscionable!

2. This explains why Guantanimo Bay prisoners can't be tried according to the laws of our nation.

Evidence gleaned from torture or under duress is not legal evidence.
