Turkish PM addresses Syrian case, urges Assad to stop assaults

ANKARA –

The killings in Syria must stop and reforms must be implemented, Turkey’s prime minister has told Syria’s president following talks with U.S. President Barack Obama.

Turkey is “deeply concerned by the loss of many lives,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in his message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Turkey stepped in three days after Damascus began a comprehensive military operation, killing hundreds of dissidents.

Syria is an important country for regional stability and the deepening turmoil would also negatively affect Turkey, which shares a long border with the Arab country.
