Detainees’ Lawyers Can’t Click on Leaked Documents
Source: The New York Times

WASHINGTON — Anyone surfing the Internet this week is free to read leaked documents about the prisoners held by the American military at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to print them out or e-mail them to friends.

Except, that is, for the lawyers who represent the prisoners.

On Monday, hours after WikiLeaks, The New York Times and other news organizations began publishing the documents online, the Justice Department informed Guantánamo defense lawyers that the documents remained legally classified even after they were made public.

Because the lawyers have security clearances, they are obligated to treat the readily available files “in accordance with all relevant security precautions and safeguards” — handling them, for example, only in secure government facilities, said the notice from the department’s Court Security Office.

1. F*** the Government, Before It F***** You.
With the amount of contempt for the law demonstrated in the last 10 years, they can kiss the ass of every real person in the nation, and still not be finished.

4. That is absolutely ridiculous. WTF is wrong with this
country? I am so disgusted lately that I'm really wishing I could be one of those people who is content to think about only myself and watch American Idol or Dancing with the Stars or whatever people watch on tv and not pay attention to the rest of the world. The more I know, the worse it is.

6. In case there is something that was leaked that the government hasn't produced during those
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 02:36 AM by Solly Mack
"secure" readings or something in the leaked documents the government has claimed (to the lawyers) didn't exist.

If the lawyers compared what was leaked to what information they have been allowed to see....and find out the government has been holding out on them...that raises another stink.

Not saying that is the actual motive.. Though I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case....but if I was one of the lawyers, such would be my thinking.

8. Why is it called the Justice Department?
Let's just be more honest and call it the Cover Up for Connected Crooks Department.

Close Gitmo today. Nothing further can be served by continuing any of its functions. Ship everybody home. Yep, everybody.
