Group injured by lightning strike in Portage (MI)
Source: WWMT

Police in Portage say seven people were sent to the hospital Tuesday after being struck by lightning.

Police say a group of adults and children were playing soccer around 6:45 pm at Westfield Park on Milham Avenue when the group was hit by lightning.

“We had multiple people down in multiple spots,” said Battalion Chief Charles Wellman, Portage Fire Department. “I was stopped on my way in by someone in a car that was injured. So I stopped at that and worked on a child in a car. Then multiple parents came up to me with their children.”

Police say one person was seriously injured by the strike. The ages of those injured ranged from middle-school aged to adults.
