A former White House official will assume a teaching position at Penn State for the 2011-2012 school year.

Announced in a Penn State Live press release Tuesday, former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Philip Crowley will serve as the Omar Bradley Chair of Strategic Leadership.

Crowley was nominated to his White House position by President Barack Obama in 2009, but resigned last month after publicly criticizing the treatment of the imprisoned Bradley Manning, who was arrested in 2010 after allegedly providing secret documents to WikiLeaks.
