Merged signatures plan dropped, so recall effort against Sen. Miller ends

Organizers of a locally based recall effort against Sen. Mark Miller, D-Monona, announced Thursday they will not merge their signatures with a Utah-based recall effort against the senator and that, consequently, their effort is dead.

Jeff Horn of DeForest, the lead organizer of the local recall effort, said the local effort came up 268 signatures short of the 20,352 needed to trigger a recall election. The group’s 60-day window to collect signatures ran out Tuesday.

The group could legally merge its signatures with a still-open effort to recall Miller by the American Recall Coalition, an offshoot of Americans Against Immigration Amnesty in Salt Lake City. That group has until Wednesday to meet the signature deadline.

But Horn said he’s become increasingly suspicious of the motives of the Utah group’s leader, Dan Baltes, and wants nothing to do with him or his organization. He began researching Baltes online and found troubling news articles and blog posts, he said.....

2. May I suggest you add a (D) to Miller's name in the subj line?
For those of us who are not familiar with Wisconsin State legislators?

3. What does frickin' Utah have to do with anything?
I thought signature gatherers had to be from within the district, either electors or eligible to be electors.

Enlighten me if I am wrong about this. I live in Illinois.

6. Ditto! What the *f* are the damned Mormons doing sticking their snout into WI?
...just like they did in CA around Prop.8 (AND, tried and tried and tried to hide that they were involved)?

I've been in and out of UT a million times...I hate it there...and here (finger) is what I think of the Mormon Cult!

Butt out!!!

11. And just how is this morally different from someone in New York
contributing to a Senate campaign in California? If you REALLY want to clean up "outside influences" you need to allow contributions only if someone has a legal vote in the specific race.

Mormons are chump change compared to out of area contributions.

BTW, I read recently that SLC has grown in such a way that Mormons are the plurality but are no longer are in the majority.

4. i don't like the idea of a 'utah based effort'.... i may support a recall, but
i don't think it would be right for me to go to wisconsin from ny to work on a recall. i can see donating money or supplies to the efforts of those who are trying to do something for the state within the state, but to physically impose myself as a non wisconsoner..... just seems wrong. like the utah mormons sticking their nose in california.

8. You could have gone there to check signatures on
petitions. There were out-of-staters double checking recall petitions. They were making sure that all the people who signed petitions to recall repubbie state senators were eligible to sign and had legitimately signed.

Money and supplies are good, too. Down the road, they may need help with phone banking. It is possible to help with this without doing anything illegal or butting into their business.

5. Miller is popular in my district. I can't imagine this was a winning proposition
for them.

Next up: Republicans change the voting qualifications/opportunities to dilute the people's votes.

7. This is a heavily Democratic district and we love Mark Miller.
If they came to my door I would have told my dog to piss on their petitions.

9. 'The group could legally merge its signatures...' I'm missing something here.
An out-of-state group would be providing signatures?

WTH is this?

I went to the link for clarification and found none.

That does not sound 'legal' to me.

Sounds like typical GOPher election fraud.

But you do know they are going to keep the signature list to solicit future campaign donations.
