Governor says Obama leaving Texas in the dust
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry criticized the Obama administration on Thursday for not responding to a request for a disaster aid for the parched state, where wildfires have scorched nearly 2 million acres.

"You have to ask, 'Why are you taking care of Alabama and other states?' I know our letter didn't get lost in the mail," Perry, a Republican and frequent critic of the federal government, said after addressing a Texas emergency management conference.

Wait a minute, hold on pardner. Didn't you lead a rally of secession in the lone star state last year? Now you like the federal government? With the Texas miracle and all you can't stand on your own? Mendacity at its finest, hypocrisy sharply honed.

48. I'm fine with Rick Perry going too - but not the whole state right?
I mean the majority of Texans are just fine being in the union - it's only Perry and his crazy base that think we don't need any government except for a military force.

Funny how Perry is always in need of that handout and rather than admit he was wrong, he's always got to put the blame on Obama.

This is just Perry's framing of Obama punishing Texas. :eyes:
She said Texas has already received 22 grants to help pay fire management expenses this fire season, including 16 in April alone.

In the past, Perry has charged that the Obama administration is punishing Texas. The Republican governor has been an outspoken opponent of the federal health reform law, and the state is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over a proposal to end Texas' independent air quality permitting program for factories and refineries.

Socialism at it's finest - when the federal government takes care of the helpless little state of Texas.

Actually, I wish no one in Texas any harm. But it's in a teaching moment like this, that the lesson can't be wasted. Wonder if there's any union firefighters and emergency workers struggling with this debacle?

Goodhair and the other Reptile Governors had better be damn glad that I'm NOT the POTUS--the first sound of "secede" out of dude's mouth I'd heard, Texas WOULD be out of the Union! I would have closed down ALL of the military bases, airports, seaports, you name it and turned off the lights!

21. They've already received substantial help
"Governor Perry's request is currently under review, and will continue our close coordination with the state as they work to protect their residents and communities," FEMA spokeswoman Rachel Racusen said.

She said Texas has already received 22 grants to help pay fire management expenses this fire season, including 16 in April alone.

I like Texas liberals. I know they would be welcome on the Pacific coast.

Texas is my state. I love this state, same as many of y'all love your states, despite republican control of your governments. Now, I'm all for Rick Perry seceding. I have no problem with him leaving.

I love the climate here. The Pacific coast is too fucking cold, and I'd rather deal with hurricanes than earthquakes. At least hurricanes are predictable days in advance and you can move out of the way ;)

And yet, I had to scrape ice off my windshield this past winter during a visit to Dripping Springs, TX. Wouldn't you know it? My parents didn't have an ice scraper because their vehicles were always kept in their garage. I had to use a plastic spatula! :P

The breeze is nice this afternoon, so I think I'll sit on the porch for a while :D

White actually knew how to deal with disasters effectively, being the celebrated mayor of Houston during Hurricane Ike. But the good people of Texas made the best decision they are apparently capable of, and chose GoodHair instead.

73. You don't live here, so you're not likely paying as close attention
as us natives. I suspect the only notice you are taking is when Perry opens his idiotic mouth. Also, a disaster isn't defined only by hundreds of people dying or monetary cost. If those are the only important criteria, then you're going to have to strike many past disasters off the books as such. This isn't a contest for worst disaster, you know :eyes:
