Kapanke recall election could fall July 12

By Chris Hubbuch chubbuch@lacrossetribune.com lacrossetribune.com | Posted: Saturday, April 30, 2011 12:00 am | (22) Comments

A judge gave Wisconsin election officials more time Friday to review recall petitions filed in the past month against eight state senators, including Republican Dan Kapanke of La Crosse.

That means Kapanke and others will likely face special elections July 12 if the petitions are ruled sufficient, although more legal challenges could lead to further delays.

The Government Accountability Board is now scheduled to meet May 23 to rule on recall efforts against Kapanke and two other Republicans and again May 31 for the other five senators.

A ninth recall, filed Thursday against Republican Sen. Robert Cowles, and any subsequent petitions will be reviewed on a separate schedule, board spokesman Reid Magney said.

With its staff stretched thin by a Supreme Court recount and a flood of recall petitions, GAB director Kevin Kennedy argued more time was needed to review the recall petitions and rule on whether they meet the statutory requirements, according to affidavits filed Thursday....................

I am fairly confident that he will be recalled. But need to get out the vote that is for sure.

We need a pickup of 3 Dems in our Senate to make a difference.

1. I hear the Repubs. are trying to recall Dem. senators in WI also.
A lot of it is based on fakery, as usual. But are the
Repubs. being successful at all, with their fakery included?
Will the Dems. be active enough to contest those faked signatures?

4. Repukes having problem getting signatures
At least two, and maybe three, of the recalls against Dem Senators have not been filed in time because they don't have enough signatures. So these Senators are safe. One is Lena Taylor from Milw. One Dem recall had the signature of a man that had been dead for 20 years. His wife had him still listed in the phone book which leads me to believe the Repukes are trolling the phone book for names. Also heard a lot of Repukes are getting phone calls asking them to verify signature and they are puzzled as they never signed
Repukes must be paying out of state people to collect signatures as the signing sheets are signed by people from out of state.

7. So f*cking ironic
The repigs are always accusing Liberals of fake signatures - think ACORN.

Mark it as case #5,773,776,236 of 'pig hypocrisy, projection, and lying.

5. In todays local paper it said in the recall for D-Wirch
that the names came from the phone book...the name of a very good (and dead)Dem showed up on their recall petitions...so I'm guessing there is going to be a more intense investigation here anyway...(Kenosha)

2. I read this just before I got on DU this morning since the La Crosse Tribune is my local paper.
I am confident that Kapanke will be beaten since we have a very strong candidate in my state representative Jennifer Schilling, but we must, must, must get out the vote and never forget the lesson we should have learned from last fall when Democrats and like-minded independents stayed home and Walker was elected governor.

3. The repugs had a big turnout in the Supreme Court vote April 5 also.. while
the attention was on the Dems -the repugs were putting up ads getting out the vote also. But the Dems did gain Dem votes in --I think 17 counties that were Walkers in 2010.

6. NEVER STAY HOME.
But it's also to be hoped that the Dem pols have learned a lesson about betraying their constituency by sucking up to the billionaire bastards.
