Egypt to open border
Source: Gulf Daily News

CAIRO: Egypt will permanently open the Rafah border crossing to ease the blockade on Gaza, Foreign Minister Nabil Al Arabi said yesterday, sparking Israeli concerns over regional security. Al Arabi told Al Jazeera Egypt would take "important steps to help ease the blockade on Gaza in the few days to come." He said Egypt would no longer accept that the Rafah border - Gaza's only crossing that bypasses Israel - remain blocked, describing the decision to seal it off as "shameful." Palestinian officials welcomed the move.

4. About time. Things are changing
since the PEOPLE began to rise up and demand their rights.

Hopefully it will lead to a freer and more peaceful world.

7. Don't forget what gets smuggled through the tunnels now
Explosives, guns, missiles...

Now open the flood gates.

They're not so interested in food and medical supplies. Israel allows convoys of that through regularly, plus allows Palestinians into Israel for medical treatment (and their reward was once a patient whose life they'd saved coming in with a bomb strapped to herself).

Oh yeah, you left off the last line:

"An Egyptian soldier was killed in an exchange of fire with tunnel smugglers near the Salah Al Din gate in Rafah."

On purpose? These aren't peaceful types we're dealing with.

9. The Palestinians are all types.
And it's not as if hating Israel is peculiar to them in the Middle East. Or anywhere.

Normalizing life in Gaza might make the need for smuggled arms less.

But my big question remains: What does this mean for the Bedouins?

I don't think that gate is being opened for free. I want to know what the deal is.

10.  Sanity in the middle east
When will the UN enforce their votes against Israels treatment of the Palestinians? As long as America continue their veto it is useless to pass any resolution against Israel,it is shameful and we will eventually pay for the insanity of our behavior.

23. You also have to ask why those votes are made
The Muslim voting bloc is large, coordinated and dedicated. They never miss a chance to pass a condemnation of Israel.

And countries like Russia and China will go along with them just to piss us off.

17. Death by stupidity does not count. Please.
That flotilla was so sure they were perfectly safe THEY BROUGHT CHILDREN WITH THEM.

To delay Israeli action, one pro-Palestinian American JUMPED INTO THE WATER because he knew the horrible, murderous Israelis would stop everything to rescue him, which they did.

Anyone going on a protest should know that PEACEFUL PROTESTERS OFFER NO RESISTANCE. You can go limp. That's the extent of resistance. Therefore it should come as no surprise when beating up an Israeli commando gets people killed.

I'm going on the Al Jazeera reporter's eyewitness accounts and the statement of the pro-Palestinian American that appeared in Salon.

Turks have more a history of genocide than peaceful protest. I can only assume someone forgot to train them in humanitarian aid mission behavior.

You accused me of being ignorant, and then you post this? Wow. Way to brand every single person in Turkey as pro-genocide.

I think you need to take a good, hard look in the mirror.

22. Apparently
deaths don't matter unless they are the "right" kind of people. If you are dead and not the "right kind of person", well, you were either in the wrong, at the wrong place at the wrong time, or, at the very least, completely to blame because "your kind" always cause trouble anyway.

That appears to be a narrative some have heard before - it's always interesting to see how it gets used in a new form when the need arises.

13. My cycinicism of all US involvement in the ME
tells me this is another reason we are in Libya. We would LOVE to have a base there, now, because we need to make certain that our staunch "ally" is protected.

19. Cynicism is a poor excuse for ignorance. Really.
You don't know what our government would love to have. You're barely guessing. You don't know the basis of the Libyan uprising or, in fact, the cause of any of the Arab spring movements.

I'm gonna guess you haven't even bothered to do a quick Google on any of it.

But you thought it was a good chance to sneak attack some socially acceptable anti-semitism. "Ally" with a sneer because, of course, IT'S ALL ISRAEL'S FAULT.

Israel has no oil but it's all Israel's fault anyway. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I hate this kind of laziness.

21. I didn't say it was Israel's fault
though I certainly did call into question their role as our "ally". I have very good reason to do so, too. You are welcome to accuse me of being ignorant when you turn right around and show your own by calling me anti-Semitic for questioning Israel.

Please feel free to lob other slander and labels around, though, it seems to be what those with nothing intelligent to say or an indefensible position do best.

26. Makes me happy, too
since people will be able to live as though they have humanity and make choices.

I have no dog in the Israeli/Palestinian race, I'm just a taxpayer that funds Israel. I pretty sick of them attacking humanitarian vessels, running over Americans, and building settlements in defiance of the UN.

I am NO fan of the UN, because I think they are a globalist hegemony - that doesn't excuse Israel in their own human rights abuses, particularly with Cast Lead.

I've already been called an Anti-Semite, so I'm no particularly afraid of being called so again for criticizing poor little, nuclear arms possessing, defenseless Israel.
