PoliticoPresident Obama to meet with 9/11 families, firefighters
President Barack Obama’s trip to New York on Thursday will include a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial and separate meetings with firefighters and families who lost loved ones in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, the White House announced today.
The trip will be Obama’s first to the site of the World Trade Center as president, and comes four days after U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, in Pakistan.
Sources familiar with the planning said the preliminary schedule calls for Obama to visit a New York City firehouse before going to the 16 acre site where the trade center’s two towers once stood. Afterwards he will meet with relatives of victims.
