Habib al-Adly, the face of the crackdown on pro-democracy protesters, convicted for money laundering and profiteering.

Egypt's former interior minister, Habib al-Adly, has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for money laundering and profiteering, according to judicial sources.

Many Egyptians had been closely watching the fate of Adli, one of the most controversial members of the administration of Hosni Mubarak, because of the harsh practices of his police force during the uprising that deposed the former president on February 11.

Adly is also facing separate charges of killing pro-democracy protesters during the revolt and squandering public funds.

2. "the charges he has yet to stand trial for are far more serious".
What he got just now is going to seem like a gentle slap up side the head, compared to what should be lying in store for him.

3. They are getting accountability. That is what we need here.
I have also read that Mubarak could be facing the death penalty (I hopt that doesn't happen since I am against the death penalty) and his son, who was going to take over for his father, is in jail awaiting trial.

Latin American countries are also prosecuting their old far right-wing regime members, even it took a lot longer there, getting justice for their victims is necessary before a country can move on.

Maybe one day it will happen here and we won't have to watch war criminals and Wall St. criminals treated like respected elder statesmen any longer. And then this country also can move on.
