Netanyahu: With bin Laden dead, Iran Supreme Leader is world's greatest threat
Source: Haaretz

In interview with CNN, Prime Minister says Ayatollah Ali Khamenei effectively runs Iran, warning that if Iran 'gets atomic bombs, it will change history.'

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei poses the greatest worldwide threat after the death of Osama bin Laden, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with CNN on Thursday.

Claiming that Khamenei posed an even greater threat than Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Netanyahu told CNN that the Supreme Leader "runs the country and he is infused with fanaticism."

"If the Iranian regime gets atomic bombs, it will change history," the premier said, adding that the "future of the world -- the future of the Middle East -- is certainly at stake."

--snip--

"The biggest threat is the possibility that a militant Islamic regime will acquire nuclear weapons -- or that nuclear weapons could acquire a militant Islamic regime," the PM said.

Really interesting is that quoted bit after the --snip--. "...or that nuclear weapons could acquire a militant Islamic regime,"

Now what nation could he be talking about, I wonder....?

33. Hey, it's supposed to start 2 weeks from today!
That nutso preacher is telling us the Rapture is going to occur on May 21. Then the Tribulation period begins culminating in that big Armageddon thing when JC and his Sonshine Band make a return appearance.

I wonder what all those nutsos are going to do on May 22nd, when they wake up and find they're still here!

3. Iran is a bad regime.
But that era of the greatest threat being a nation-state is over. A stateless terror cell is the new enemy. 9/11, the bombings in Madrid and London were not sponsored by any country.

6. Ahmadinejad allies charged with sorcery
Close allies of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have been accused of using supernatural powers to further his policies amid an increasingly bitter power struggle between him and the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Several people said to be close to the president and his chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, have been arrested in recent days and charged with being "magicians" and invoking djinns (spirits).

Ayandeh, an Iranian news website, described one of the arrested men, Abbas Ghaffari, as "a man with special skills in metaphysics and connections with the unknown worlds".

The arrests come amid a growing rift between Ahmadinejad and Khamenei which has prompted several MPs to call for the president to be impeached.

Edited on Fri May-06-11 03:16 AM by fujiyama
then he should do what he feels is in Israel's best interest about it. We neither have to fund or support Israel taking action against anyone. It's a sovereign nation free to defend itself from threats it deems imminent.

But it's time to leave the US out of it. And that means if they get in a war with Iran, its their responsibility on how to deal with it. Unless there is clear evidence that Iran is harboring or sponsoring terrorists against the US, this is not something we can afford to get caught up in. I know they sponsor terrorists against Iran (like Hezbollah) and cutting the flow of arms and money to terrorists should be a global effort.

We can and should lead other nations in financially crippling the Iranian regime, which is what we've done through sanctions and other means. But besides that and keeping active intelligence tabs on terror related activities and their nuclear program, I don't see what more can or should do.

20. No guesses yet for who he was alluding to when he said "...or that nuclear weapons could acquire...
"...a militant Islamic regime"?

Definite departure from his typical rhetoric, which has focused so far only on Iran.

35. Media: Former Israeli spymaster says military strike against Iran would be “stupid”
Media: Former Israeli spymaster says military strike against Iran would be “stupid”
By Associated Press, Published: May 7

JERUSALEM — Israeli media are quoting the country’s recently retired spy chief as saying a military strike against Iran’s nuclear program would be “stupid.”

This conclusion challenges Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s position that Iran won’t curb its nuclear ambitions unless it thinks it is threatened with military action.

Iran says it is not developing nuclear weapons, but Israel and the West do not believe that.

Media on Sunday reported that former spymaster Meir Dagan told a weekend conference that an effective attack on Iran would be difficult because Iranian nuclear facilties are scattered and mobile.
