Radioactive materials from Fukushima to reach U.S. within few yrs: IAEA
VIENNA, May 6, Kyodo

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Thursday radioactive substances leaked into the Pacific Ocean from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan are expected to reach the west coast of the United States and Canada within one or two years.

The quantity of the substances, however, is expected to be too small to affect human health, an IAEA official said at a press conference.

Radioactive substances have also been emitted into the atmosphere from the nuclear plant, which was crippled by the March 11 massive earthquake and tsunami, and the leakage was confirmed across the Northern Hemisphere and parts of the Southern Hemisphere.

18. sure "not safe" (if you're of the birther mentality)
The death toll from coal and oil is 10,000 times that from nuclear power. But don;t become confused by the facts. BP and Exxon must be loving this.

13. There is a strong, concerted effort...
...to hide information about radiation that is in our atmosphere and water--due to Fukushima.

Have you noticed the media blackout?

There were many articles about radioactive isotopes (cesium and iodine-131) in our rainwater, drinking water, milk and
other produce) that began trickling in. Then, those articles just stopped. However, the radiation from Fukushima has
continued to pour out of that plant.

It is accumulating everywhere. But there is a media blackout.

In early May, CIIRAD--a French research body on radiation issued a warning to all Europeans that drinking milk and
eating leafy greens was "risky behavior" due to dangerous amounts of cesium and iodine-131. The article also noted
that the levels found in the United States were SEVERAL TIMES HIGHER THAN WHAT WAS FOUND IN EUROPE.

Warnings for them. Zilch for us poor bastards in the United States.

Here's the link to the article: http://www.eutimes.net/2011/04/fukushima-radiation-no-longer-negligible-in-europe/

And anyone who tells you--"Oh come now, radiation is all around us, why...it's even in bananas!!" is toeing the line
for the energy companies who want to quell opposition in order to continue profitting from nuclear energy.

ANY AMOUNT OF CESIUM OR RADIOATIVE IODINE-131 INCREASES YOUR CHANCES OF CANCER. Any expert on radiation and how it affects
the body--will tell you that. Radioactive isotopes from Fukushima continue to accumuulate in our water, in our soil
and in our produce and in our milk---that's a fact.

But--the profit-makers get to decide what we read and if we can protect ourselves and our children, right?

16. Yeah, it was here within days.
However, it was only detectable because there are certain isotopes that are unique to reactors that are different from normal background radiation.

10.  "radioactive substances leaked into the Pacific Ocean"
Isn't "leaked" past tense?
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but AFAIK, Japan is still LEAKING (present tense)radioactive cooling water into the Pacific Ocean.
Actually, it isn't a leak at all. It's deliberate. A leak implies something accidental, whereas sending it into the ocean because there is no other place to put it, is intentional.
MASSIVE FUBAR.

12. "too small to affect human health"
This is the Camel/Straw Fallacy.

Each individual straw is too small to affect the camel,
but bound together, they can break the camel's back.

The radiation from Fukushima in the US is added to ALL the other sources of environmental radiation.
The load on the camel IS getting larger.

14. mmmm it's good for you, don't worry about the fish
you'll be fine, everyone needs a little Iodide, Cesium, Xenon, Americium plus the everlasting particles of Uranium and Plutonium, in their diet (just please dont get a scintilator near a gallon of milk, because then you'll know we're lying our asses off)

17. Tell that to all those boats that dump primary coolant steam into the ocean.
Degas procedure, typically done prior to coming into harbor after a long trip. Vents steam from the pressurizer straight into the ocean. They mainly do it to get rid of the AR-41, also prior to ORSE so they can perform primary adds for the inspectors. Only rule is that we stay outside the 12 nautical mile limit when we do it. (If we dump chromated water from the Primary shield we need to stay outside 50, but that procedure is a lot less common).

We've probably been doing this for... 50 years, maybe 60 years. I haven't noticed any ill effects, I seriously doubt we'll even notice a background spike in the coastal waters from these accidents.
