GOP's Santorum say's he's running for president
Source: AP

SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) — Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rich Santorum says he's running for president.

Appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America" Monday morning, Santorum said, "We're in it to win it."

The former No. 3 Republican in the Senate, Santorum has been a favorite among the GOP's anti-abortion rights bloc and has been identified with a number of causes embraced by social conservatives.

7. Why is that everytime I see this GOP contender's name...
... I read it as Sanitorium? I'm guessing that his candidacy would be a wet dream for Obama's political team, almost as good as having Trump or Palin on the ticket, not that any of those seem likely to me.

31. I know everybody's laughing but this joke is not in our interest.
If Bachman, plus Palin, plus Santorum all get in there there are so many loons in the mix that there is less chance of us getting a loon to run against and the loon influence will also be marginalized over what it could be if we managed to have one loon candidate emerge with lots of influence in the Republican outcome.

I think I'll invent a phrase: "The diminishing loon return."

50. Oh, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
All that loon money is going to be evenly--and therefore ineffectively--distributed among the loons, many of whom are consumed by personal greed. Few of them have any real loyalty to their political party or its success.

For example, I would not be surprised at all if the Palin campaign blows its first twenty million on a Gulfstream jet, you know, for campaigning, also (wink).

In the meantime, the Gingrich campaign will spend most of its money defaming the other Republican candidates, inevitably reducing the viability of all the candidates, including Gingrich himself.

And if the primaries end early and some of those candidates still have money to burn through, they may have an incentive to continue running as third-party candidates, further splitting the asshole vote.

Right now the Republican primary looks like a DSM-IV Cluster B personality disorder study. They're all different, but they all lack empathy and remorse, while they are all possessed by the desire for money and fame.

Like Enrico Fermi measuring the power of an atomic bomb by observing how far pieces of paper are blown off the table and balancing variables so that they cancel each other out, we'll be able to watch the Republicans consume themselves by watching the money flutter from the safety of our very sane bunker.

52. Didn't the Republicans change their rules?
In 2008, because they had so many winner-take-all primaries, McCain (arguably the candidate farthest to the left) picked up many complete delegations with plurality wins, while the more conservative candidates were splitting the right-wing vote. I take your point to be that the same thing could happen in 2012, if the loony vote is split.

My understanding, though, is that the Republicans have finally done away with winner-take-all. So I'd say, from our standpoint, the more loons the better. If they can each pick up some delegates, then there's more chance that one of them will be in a position to cut a deal, e.g. demanding the VP slot.

33. Santorum:
NOUN - The sometimes frothy, usually slimy, amalgam of lubricant, stray fecal matter, and ejaculate that leaks out of the receiving partner's anus after a session of anal intercourse. Named, by popular demand and usage, after legislator Rick Santorum because of his homophobic political statements.

"That move was about as slick as santorum!"

49. I predict a slippery, foamy, stinky ride for Santorum.
It remains to be seen whether or not he can grit his teeth, bend to the task, handle the enormous pressures for the full length, back his running mate to the hilt, and take the full load of responsibility that awaits him.

Thank you FSM for this comedic gift from your heavenly pasta bowl!
