Louisiana Republican Aims To Overturn Roe v. Wade
Source: Huffington Post

The Louisiana state legislature is considering a bill that would make performing an abortion a criminal offense, including in cases of rape and incest, and that would force a woman to pay out of pocket for an abortion that is necessary to save her life.

State Rep. John LaBruzzo (R), who introduced the bill, told lawmakers in a committee hearing last month that he fully intends for the bill to make its way up through the federal courts and challenge Roe v. Wade -- the 1973 Supreme Court decision that barred states from outlawing abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy.

"I think we're going at it piecemeal, trying to get two yards at a time, but we haven't gotten one first down," LaBruzzo said. "And I think this bill basically shoots for the end zone."

The Louisiana chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, which would likely bring a lawsuit against the abortion ban if it passes, called the legislation "a frontal attack" on women's health and the medical profession.

1. In other words, if a woman has no money and needs an abortion to live she dies.
Pro life my ass.

15. Wait, what about
if, God forbid a woman, young lady, girl gets rape, in some states she is forced to have the baby (although the gopers truly feel that if a women is rape its because shed wanted it).

I can see LA going down that path also. The assault on women keeps it ugly head up.

10. LaBruzzo: Son of David Dukkke
Same district. Same racist eugenicism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_LaBruzzo#Voluntary_sterilization_proposal

On September 23, 2008, LaBruzzo raised controversy by proposing that women receiving government welfare should receive $1,000 if they voluntarily choose to be sterilized. The proposal was criticized by opponents as "racist, sexist, unethical and immoral."

The voluntary sterilization proposal has a great deal in common with a previous proposal by Neo-Nazi David Duke, who formerly occupied LaBruzzo's seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives. To wit, "David Duke, the unsuccessful candidate for governor, proposed legislation offering $100 a year to welfare recipients who used Norplant. That, too, was defeated." LaBruzzo's proposal goes even farther than Duke's, as he has proposed permanent sterilization, as opposed to temporary birth control. Norplant, which Duke proposed using, has a 5-year period of effectiveness.

:puke:

Bonus factoid: The 81st District has also had the dubious honor of being represented by none other than Diaper Dave Vitter.

12. Smaller government?

Government small enough to get in bed with you.

Reproductive rights don't belong in the political arena and certainly not under the direction of people who try to force their religious beliefs on others. Why do they get to draw the lines where freedom begins and ends? This is really none of their business especially in light of Republican ideas regarding many of those same babies once they grow up. Poverty, hunger, unaffordable education, joblessness. This is the bright future Republican policies create for many of those babies as they're abandoned by these same anti-abortion Republicans almost as soon as they take their first breath.

Maybe the Republicans can give them a voucher for life.

And how the hell can anyone be anti-abortion and pro-death penalty?

13. You would think Louisiana is “pro-life”…
…at least until you look at the U.S. life expectancy table:

Ouch, Louisiana!

16. Excellent.
Every time I think the Republicans may be on the verge of bottoming out, they find a way to dig themselves in deeper.

To review: The Republicans hate poor people, sick people, people without jobs, non-whites, immigrants, and women.

I hope they continue to find ways to ablate their base of support.

17. In the words of Buffy the Vampire Slayer....
"Go ahead. Rush me! It'll be funny!" (Since the LA legislator is dabbling in football metaphors whilst diminishing women's health issues...)

Geez, I find it actually *almost* amusing that Republicans are dabbling with state level legislation that they KNOW will only result in very expensive legal appeals responses for their state. Way to be financially conservative guys! That the House in LA has actually approved this bill just shows that the supposed financial conservatism stance of the Republican party has officially been thrown under the proverbial bus!

19. It is a complete invasion of privacy...
and violation of civil rights as far as I can concerned. If the fetus develops sever bith defects or is not even alive is the women going to be forced to carry to term even if it means her death or her inability to have kids in the future??
