5.2 earthquake jolts Southcentral Alaska
Source: adn.com

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 shook Southcentral Alaska just after 11 a.m. today, according to the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer.

The quake hit at 11:06 a.m. Its epicenter was 9 miles east-northeast of Nikiski and it was 30 miles deep, said Cindi Preller, tsunami program manager for Alaska.

"It woke us all up," she said. "Who needs coffee?"

Though the quake was 50 miles southwest of Anchorage, most of the calls coming into the center were from the Matanuska Valley, Preller said.

1. No doubt, if there is any damage ...
they'll be asking for federal aid, but continue to vote Republican.

4. bite me. and by the way, I felt that earthquake this morning.
given that we had the largest and longest quake known so far, we don't joke about this. People die by falling into quicksand and disappearing forever up here in my neck of the woods through liquifaction.

Since we pay taxes, we are entitled to aid if there is something wrong. do you begrudge New Orleans after Katrina because Louisiana votes republican? We don't all vote republican. The largest amount of voters in this state are independent and we were a dem state until all the southern yokels came up here to exploit our oil.

Easy to speak of another place badly when you don't know what you are talking about. And frankly, I would support aid to your state, whatever that is if something happened without complaining about the voting record. I am sure repugs vote a lot and win alot there too.

5. I'm not saying we shouldn't give aid ...
I think you completely misunderstood what I was saying.

Republicans continue to say that they want smaller government until they need the government.
It amazes and annoys me that people continue to vote against their own best interest.

What happened in New Orleans was criminal. The Dem governor put out a request to make certain
parishes Federal Disaster areas, and when the White House produced their list, some southern
parishes were not included as disaster areas so that certain properties could be taken over.

Look at Joplin, MO. Completely republican stronghold. You think the Repubs care about them. They
are being held hostage over debt reduction, meanwhile people are dying.

I meant no disrespect to your situation. I just wanted to point out Republicans continue to scream
for smaller government until they need the government.
