Omaha sets flood evacuation plan

By Maggie O'Brien

People living in far northeastern Omaha and the riverfront area near downtown were cautioned Thursday that they should be prepared to evacuate in the event of a major levee break.

The Omaha area is under a flood warning, and 2,700 residents could be asked to evacuate if conditions warrant, according to information provided by the city Thursday.

The town of Carter Lake is included in the evacuation area, as are Eppley Airfield and the Qwest Center Omaha.

“This is the worst-case scenario, in the event of a catastrophic levee break,” said Omaha Assistant Fire Chief Dan Stolinski.

6. Couldn't build a stadium of the quality that was built at Rosenblatt either
The land just wasn't there. The traffic and parking were some of the worst planning I've ever had the horrible experience of being trapped in for over four hours.

I just hope for the sake of Omahans and Carter Lakers that the levee holds.

5. They've been shutdown for over a month.
Cooling is less of an issue for them and I131 has gone through at least 4 half life decays leaving it less than 1/16 previous levels. Even at fukushima reactors 4, 5, and 6 were shut down, and the issue there was the spent pool at reactor 4, which was primarily due to structural damage from the earthquake and had less to do with the loss of power.
