Greens want water licenses protected

The Australian Greens want water licenses to be protected from being bought up by foreign companies.

Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young said just like prime farming land, water licenses were a valuable commodity that should be locally owned.

"Australians don't want foreign companies buying up prime agricultural land so they can be turned into mining sites," she said on Friday.

"And they do not want water allocation rights acquired by parties not interested in protecting future flows."

1. Water law is very important, how is yours structured?
First come or like mining law? here it varies by state.
