OBL reportedly targeted Obama(and Petraeus) for 9/11/11 attack
Source: CBS News

Before Osama bin Laden died at the hands of U.S. Navy SEALs in May, his terror wish list reportedly included attacking the United States on the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks and shooting down President Obama's helicopter or plane while the president was in the air.

A U.S. official confirmed to CBS News correspondent Bob Orr Friday that intelligence gathered during the May 2 raid on bin Laden's compound in Pakistan revealed that the al Qaeda head discussed with his operations planners a wide array of potential attacks against the U.S. and senior American officials.

All of the discussions were determined by the U.S. government to be "aspirational," and there is no evidence to indicate that any ideas ever developed into an actual plot, Orr reports. The U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that discussions among bin Laden and his deputies about the opaque 9/11 anniversary attack included which of al Qaeda's operatives should be involved.

ABC News reported Friday that those discussions included targeting Mr. Obama aboard Air Force One or Marine One and executing a similar airborne attack against Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan who was recently confirmed as the next director of the CIA.

14. How satisfying! Very constructive approach from a counterterror perspective.
So if this fellow OBL was really the spider in the world terror web, explain please how executing him in a situation in which he was powerless (as has been established) helps in the counterterrorism effort. He'd be the most useful "high-value" prisoner of all. Killing him means anything he knows is lost, any plans he already approved can go ahead. This was a much better thing for "al-Qaeda" than taking him prisoner.

But in that case you wouldn't have the spattered brains to make you feel so good.

15. It's not about counter-terrorism

And a lot of what he knew resides on the computers they confiscated.

And holding him prisoner would be a lot more provocative, terrorism-wise than killing him and making him squid food. Every Tom, Dick and Ahmad in the world would be taking hostages to exchange for him. Or bombing high-impact US interests or citizens. Just as they are today. His imprisonment would be every bit as provocative as his death - even moreso, because the faint hope of his release or return would always be an irresistible motivation.

Some fuckers deserve to die - I can only hope he was scared shitless, and felt at least some pain before his miserable life leaked out of his face and the back of his head.

3. The real reason why they didn't want Osama on trial...
He knew too much about CIA operations in the area for the past 3 decades. Since he worked for them so closely all those years they didn't want him testifying about everything he did for them in their pay.
