Northern Colombia soldiers, police arrested for drug ties
Thursday, 04 August 2011 07:42
Stephen Manker

Anti-narcotics agents arrested 20 members of the criminal gang "Los Rastrojos," among which are three soldiers and seven policemen.

The arrest occurred in the northern region of the Antioquia department, where Los Rastrojos have a strong presence.

Authorities say that the members of military and police were on the same payroll as members of the gang.

They were allegedly paid $1,130 dollars a month by the murdered leader of Los Rastrojos, Angel de Jesus Pacheco, alias "Sebastian." Sebastian was reportedly betrayed and murdered by his own bodyguards on July 25, 2011.

Colombia is the 3rd largest recipient of U.S. taxpayers' hard-earned dollars in foreign aid annually.

1. What a mess.
THis war on drugs just has to end. We can't keep up this ridiculous farce of controlling people's bodies. Hell, it's hard enough to try to control one's own skin, you know?

Thanks for keeping us updated on our friends in the southern hemisphere. Some day I would like to be there, but it sounds even scarier than where I am.

3. Now if the federal government seriously wanted to save money,
then cutting out the wasteful, dysfunctional, corruptive and counterproductive spending of hard earned tax payer dollars on this eternal Sisyphean insanity would cease.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus

In Greek mythology Sisyphus ( /ˈsɪsəfəs/; Greek: Σίσυφος Sísyphos) was a king punished by being compelled to roll an immense boulder up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, and to repeat this throughout eternity. He is also found in Roman mythology.

The word "sisyphean" means "endless and unavailing, as labor or a task".<1>

The primary difference between the Sisyphean analogy and the "War on Drugs" is that when the boulder inevitably rolls down the hill in the "War on Drugs," countless numbers of innocent people get crushed.

Thanks for the thread, Judi Lynn.

4. The boulder continues to roll downhill

(This news article of earlier this week received little or no attention (that I saw) in the U.S. MSM. Note the source is the Colombian government's Attorney General Vivane Morales.)
--------------------------

Colombia´s yearly money laundering exceeds 8 billion dollars

Attorney General’s Office, Viviane Morales, said yesterday in Beijing that the growth of money laundering in Colombia has taken a rapid pace and now exceeds 3% of the country’s gross domestic product, or approximately 8 billion dollars per year.

She said these are the results of a study made by the colombian Information and Financial Analysis Institute.

----------------------

Guess Plan Colombia is not working according to Washington's design. Seven billion U.S. tax dollars down the rathole in the past decade.
