Jury convicts 5 officers in post-Katrina shootings
Edited on Fri Aug-05-11 12:42 PM by cal04
Source: Associated Press

A federal jury on Friday convicted five current or former police officers in the deadly shootings on a New Orleans bridge after Hurricane Katrina.

All five officers were convicted of charges stemming from the cover-up of the shootings. The four who had been charged with civil rights violations in the shootings were convicted on all counts.

However, the jury didn't find that Brisette or Faulcon's shootings amounted to murder.

Prosecutors contended during the five-week federal trial that officers shot unarmed people without justification and without warning, killing two and wounding four others on Sept. 4, 2005, then embarked on a cover-up involving made-up witnesses, falsified reports and a planted gun.

2. If they weren't charged with criminal conspiracy in the coverup they should have been.

11. When you have a badge
it is NEVER murder.

When a drunk cop ran my mother down (driving 70 in a 40) he was charged with, uh, well, actually, nothing at all. No breathalyzer or BAC test was done. However, before my mother's corpse was cold, they had run a full spectrum BAC and drug screen in hopes they could find something to make it her fault.

They didn't find anything, so, they blamed her anyway. Her White nurses uniform, white shoes and bright red jacket became "dark clothing", which is why she was hit.

And yes, I am bitter, and it is things like this that remind me I'm bitter.

5. So the people that they shot were unarmed and defenseless
and the shootings were obviously not justified.

How is this not murder?

I thought that this was the kind of shit that we used to invade other countries for doing...

6. Not murder because they are cops?
WTF?!

I wonder how much probation they will get.

8. I NEVER have sympathy for cops.
The uniform exists to protect the establishment, therefore they are above the law.

And yes, the FOP (Frathouse Of PIGS) should be busted.

13. But there are some good cops.
Unfortunately, the 99.99% who are sadistic fucking pigs ruin it for all the rest.

14. When the "brotherhood" covers for each other, they are all corrupt.
In fairness, there was a story last week of a 30 year deputy who was arrested and charged for DWI. The deputy pleaded with them not to arrest him because of the "brotherhood", but they were adamant that his DWI was illegal and a danger to public safety, so he was rightfully charged.

10. The Danzinger bridge killings have lingered and I'm glad it's finished.
President Obama's Department of Justice deserves a round applause for this.
