Reports: Rioters To Target Southgate And Barnet

Police are telling shops and businesses in Southgate and High Barnet to close early amid reports of more unrest in north London.

LBC understands that shops have been urged to close early and board up, with people believed to be arriving at 4pm to continue their looting.

We've been told by shop owners Officers have warned riots may begin as early as 5 o'clock this afternoon. The Met Police are yet to confirm the report.

Southgate High Street is believed to be already closed off as the riots across London cause havoc with travel.

The police can't be everywhere, and a report I saw last night on the BBC said in one area, the police just stood by, because they were hopelessly outnumbered. In another area, I think it was Croydon, the reporter said it took two hours for the police and fire brigade to respond when a building was set on fire.

It's just opportunistic criminality, and in so many cases, the people who are suffering are locals who are losing their homes and businesses. Most of the areas hit so far aren't very affluent - they probably don't have much more than the kids doing the damage.
