Romney plans to quadruple size of Calif. home
Source: The Washington Post

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is planning to nearly quadruple the size of his $12 million California beachfront mansion.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and the nominal front-runner for the GOP’s 2012 presidential nomination, is planning to bulldoze his 3,009-square-foot home facing the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, Calif., and replace it with an 11,062-square-foot home, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The Union-Tribune reported late Saturday that Romney has filed an application with the city for a coastal development permit, but that no date has been set to consider the project.

A Romney campaign official confirmed the report, saying the Romneys want to “enlarge their two-bedroom home because with five married sons and 16 grandchildren it is inadequate for their needs. Construction will not begin until the permits have been obtained and the campaign is finished.”

4. He can show us pictures of how luxurious it is to live as America is
turned into a third world country. I suppose he will hire a lucky few to shovel his shit for him as most lead lugubrious lives as America is sold off to the rest of the world.

9. Unless you're one of the unemployed that get a job demolishing his old house
or build his new one. My guess is that he's not going to do the work himself.

27. Trickle down at work. He get's 200 Million Dollars and a few contractors get to tear
down his house to build him a better one. With a ratio like that (1 million to 1) how can America lose?

8. Wait --- it's a 3000 SF house with only TWO bedrooms?
That would be a very bizarre design. I've never seen a house that size with fewer than 4 BRs (and most have enough rooms to be classified as 5 or 6 BR houses.

It boggles my mind that someone would justify building or buying an 11000 SF house so that it can accommodate visits from family.

24. bedrooms
Yes, that's weird. My approx. 1000 sq ft house has three bedrooms and a small room that can fit a cot for visits.

My grandparents had four kids and 14 grandkids, and somehow we did not feel the need to sleep them all in one house during family gatherings. Haven't these people heard of hotels.

13. In this economy, this is a stupid move
He is going to be bashed with this, over and over and over. Rightfully so. No one needs an 11,000 sq ft house. Kids can share rooms. Mittens, get some bunk bed and trundles for your spoiled grandkids.

25. A man of the people ..... no doubt

W/ 3,000 square feet and the land around it a good builder / re modeler / architect
could add some bedrooms and bathrooms quite nicely but if you are super rich then
you bulldoze a perfectly good home and build a castle to show the world what a man
you are.

BTW I think that house is on Spindrift Dr. La Jolla, CA and is a classic southern california home .....
what a waste. :grr:

36. Damn Romney for putting construction workers to work! Damn him to hell!
I don't understand the criticism. Perhaps if more people decided to go a head with home projects like these, the housing and construction industry could see a bit of a boom.

Damn him for hiring skilled workers to do work on his home. They'll probably get paid pretty well too. Damn him!
