Call for Libya's al-Megrahi to be reimprisoned in UK
Source: BBC News

Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing, should be sent back to the UK, a Conservative MP has urged.

Robert Halfon said Megrahi should be reimprisoned, preferably in Scotland.

He was speaking after forces opposed to the rule of Col Muammar Gaddafi took control of most of Libya's capital.

Reimprisoned and then the appeal be allowed to proceed.

The trial of the “Lockerbie bomber” was worse than a travesty of justice. Evidence that never came to court proves his innocence. http://www.newstatesman.com/international-politics/2009/09/pilger-megrahi-justice

1. Now that Gaddafi is (apparently) defeated, we may be able to find out who actually committed this
atrocity and finally bring them to justice.

It's unlikely that Megrahi played more than a peripheral role, at most.

So Halfon, stop kneejerking!

2. I think the US would prefer to keep the subject under wraps

US tells Libya rebels: Capture the Lockerbie bomber for us.

A dramatic mission to capture the freed Lockerbie bomber from Libya and return him to face justice in the United States was revealed last night.

Under a secret deal between Barack Obama and Libyan rebel leaders, Abdelbaset Al Megrahi would be detained by opposition troops and then handed over to US Special Forces.

Senior Congressional sources in Washington have disclosed to The Mail on Sunday that President Obama has told the Libyan rebels through intermediaries that a condition of continued support from the US is that they must hand over Megrahi if they enter Tripoli.

Megrahi has already faced trial and been convicted -- wrongly, in my view -- in a process supported by the United States. He could not be tried again in the USA unless Federal Law were changed to allow it

5. If we get him, he'll end up in Guantanamo until he dies.
There will be no trial.

The guy is wheelchair bound and dying of terminal prostate cancer. We'll throw him in a cell, deny him treatment, and let him die.

Can't let a little thing like "revolution" get in the way of burying the truth.
