President Starts Vacation by Fishing
Associated Press

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush got a chance to renew his favorite vacation pastimes on a hot, hazy Sunday at his ranch. He took a walk, cleared brush and went fishing.

The temperature was climbing toward the high 90s through the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

On the first full day of a monthlong vacation, Bush took a walk around the ranch with the first lady, Laura Bush, and Condoleezza Rice, his national security adviser.

"He then went and cleared some brush for a couple of hours, before going fishing," said Taylor Gross, a White House spokesman.

Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 10:03 PM by PartyPooper
while Georgie Boy is playing 'sportsman'...and, they're relegated to the main house of the pig farm...just so he may indulge in his 'manly' fantasies.

It kinda reminds me of Queen Marie Antoinette when she used to play 'milk maid' at the Petite Trianon. What was King Louis doing to occupy his time during these "playtimes"? I wonder.

Is that what you do when you're an upscale asshole and try to emulate what an honest working rancher does. Surely, he has staff to care for the fucking place.

39. Bu$h* SAYS he's clearing brush -- but he's also a liar and a phony.
Why believe him on this? He wants to look "manly" and SAYING he's clearing brush is just as good as actually doing it.

I can't imagine that pampered preppy bum out in the hot Texas sun sweating. Except, maybe, for a staged photo or phony photo-op. A brief photo-op. Then back to the airconditioning for Bu$h*.

And I bet I know why Bu$h won't ride a horse. Horses don't have airconditioning. So he roars around his toy ranch in a fancy pickup.

This year: Move brush from sector "B" to sector "A".

Later today: Get eaten by a fish. Much hilarity ensues. Fish arrested and shipped to Gitmo.

8. Bu$h must not know that Texas fish take August off, too.
That is a reason that a Texas fishing license runs from August to August. Everybody has to renew in August. There ain't nothin' else to do but go down to the hardware store and renew, 'cause fishing ain't worth shit in August in Texas. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Maybe it's different in Texas, I dunno, but I always understood that in general fish didn't bite much in the heat of the afternoon.

Have we got a Lone Star Rod & Reel Ace here at DU. America needs to know the low-down on fishing in Texas, and a Chimp's chances.

37. I bet he figures that they're "his" personal fish ...
since he built that artificial pond and stocked it, therefore he can have his way with them any time he wants! Just as he is thinking that the US military are "his" personal troops and he can send them wherever he likes.

I hear that even though he had a new well drilled at his place, the pond starts to dry out and the water temperature skyrockets in the summer, because he forgot to take that into account when he built it ... those poor fish probably wish they could escape into the Brazos River. (And the poor soldiers in Iraq probably want to go home, too ...)

I sure don't want to start another thread, but this has been bugging me. There was a song that came out during the Carter administration about a killer rabbit that was headed towards his fishing boat. Does anyone remember the writer or the lyrics?

I SWEAR I'm not kidding on this!

googled the story, but can't find the songwriter.

20. Nope, that's a for-real story about Carter!
I remember when it happened--I was in High School--it was on every major network for at least a week.

Carson milked it for jokes, and I think SNL made a reference in some skit.

Yep, a real story. Don't you wish we had such simple diversions nowadays?

24. Yes, I remember this, as well
It really did happen. The press had a field day with it, as did the comedians, like Carson. It does seem pretty ludicrous, the leader of the free world being attacked by a vicious bunny. Carter was in trouble by this point, so the timing of this incident did him no good. Check out my avatar and you'll know I am not just talking through my hat.

25. Breaking news could be.....
The President put on his underwear this morning and did not realize until ten o'clock that he had put them on backwards! Embarrassed at his gaffe he removed his trousers in the Oval Office (horrors!) and put his shorts on correctly. Then he put on his trousers (you guessed it) backwards! Condi and Laura laughed until they wet their panties.

27. rods, reels, golf carts and cows
Did he make any remarks first? maybe something memorable along the lines of-
"I take responsibility for everything I say, of course." said Bush*, fishing reel in hand. "Thank you. Now, watch this cast."?

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of jr*s immortal words:

"I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers," said Bush*, golf club in his hand. "Thank you. Now watch this drive."

and this year's vacation also marks second anniversay of "I love to go walking out there, seeing the cows. Occasionally they talk to me, being the good listener that I am," Bush said.

I'll spare everyone the rant.

30. GWB Presidential lie #201847294749
From his press conference of July 30:

"My first concern, Dick, was for those folks who couldn't find a job. And I addressed unemployment and addressed economic stagnancy with a tax cut that affected growth -- or the lack of growth -- in a positive way. And I'm optimistic about our economy. But I'm not going to stop working until people can find a job who are looking for work."

And then he goes on vacation.

Not one on the "ranch" -- how can you have a "ranch" without a HORSE?

I'll tell you why, he's so full of shit and such a phony that if he got on a horse he would immediately be thrown OFF by the Horse..

they are the ultimate bullshit detectors and frankly I'm pretty sure that BUSH IS AFRAID OF HORSES!!

I'd love to see the Press DEMAND that he ride one - we'd all get such a Dukakis Moment like you wouldn't believe..

36. Here's what I would like to see in the "liberal" media
For each day of his vacation, go ahead and showcase his activities, with him playing dress up, laughing and smiling. Then, show what the typical soldier is doing in Iraq -- the heat, the weariness, the fear in some young recruit's eyes or a National Guard member who in real life is a suburban accountant, maybe with an increasing death toll running in a box in the bottom.

You could alternate that with the stories of real Americans who have been impacted by this economy — the older couple who are skipping vital medication because he just lost his medical benefits when the factory he devoted his entire life to declared bankruptcy to discharge legacy costs or maybe the young family who is losing their first home because the business he worked for shut its doors and the phone bank she worked at outsourced to India.

Don't forget to also track the donations he is raising during his vacations so that we can know the price tag corporate America and plutocracy are putting on our democracy and freedom.
