Rick Perry to unveil flat tax plan
Edited on Wed Oct-19-11 03:26 PM by brooklynite
Source: Politico

Rick Perry will outline a plan next week to replace the U.S. tax code with a federal “flat tax,” he told an audience in Las Vegas Wednesday.

Perry’s plan, he told the Western Republican Leadership Conference, “starts with scrapping the three million words of the current tax code, starting over with something simpler: a flat tax.”

“I want to make the tax code so simple that even Timothy Geithner can file his taxes on time,” Perry said, in a reference to the Treasury secretary’s personal tax slip-ups.

The Texas governor is scheduled to give an October 25 speech on jobs and taxes, the second of several policy addresses he’s delivering this month.

I dunno; after Pawlenty, Bachmann and Cain, a Flat Tax seems so...yesterday.

3. Flat Tax is Immoral
Flat tax is one of the great ideas of the right-wing think tanks like Heritage Foundation and CATO etal, all sponsored by the same group of thugs that we all know too well.

The idea isnt new, the thugs arent new, what is new is the overwhelming depth of ignorance by so many Americans, and yet if the polls are to be believed, an overwhelming percentage of the citizenry is in favor of taxing the rich appropriately...wonder why we arent doing exactly that!

No, I am not wondering, I know why, George Carlin explained it to me first...

4. The Flat Tax is the one thing my Republican friends agree on...
it would hurt the poor and help the rich.

My question is what % will he want? 12% but no sales tax? 8% so his will be lower than Cain's? No, wait! 666 that's the ticket Little Ricky! See if you can get you right wing zombies to follow you on that.

5. To recap, Rev. Goodhair has been reduced to copycatting Herman Cain.
who, in turn, plagiarized it from a video game.

If he weren't being propped up by the Koch Bros., the Pizza Douche would be somewhere around .087 percent in the polls.

6. flat tax
Let's hope that Romney comes out with a similar plan. I can imagine how the Democrats could use that in the campaign. How anybody who isn't a diehard right wing could vote for any GOP candidate is beyond me.

13. Every "Flat tax" plan I've seen
puts a heavy burden on the poor and makes the super rich tax free. They always do away with the capital gains tax.

Yah, just try it and see how close you get to the next debate.

15. "Rick Perry will outline a plan next week to replace the U.S. tax code..."
....mark your calendars, set your alarms, phone your neighbors and friends, son-of-chimp is about to bloviate on taxes....

"Perry hasn't spelled out the details of his 'flat tax' plan yet, but he began to draw a contrast in Tuesday night’s debate..."

....contrast?....there isn't any stinkin' 'contrast' with any stinkin' Republican or their stinkin' tax-schemes....all puke plans can be summed-up, "Give the rich a tax break and stick the rest of us with the bill."

....capisce?

18. Hell, we need tax BENEFITS to get progressive
Make tax deductions phase out with the size of the company. Make it so the "small businesses" that they keep crying over get the majority of the benefit, while the big companies get nothing. That should be favored by the rethugs as it will reduce government spending.

19. My favorite GOP talking point: the size of the Internal Revenue Code
Title 26, US Code is the Internal Revenue Code. It has 11 subtitles:

Subtitle A: Income Taxes
Subtitle B: Estate and Gift Taxes
Subtitle C: Employment Taxes
Subtitle D: Miscellaneous Excise Taxes
Subtitle E: Alcohol, Tobacco and Certain Other Excise Taxes
Subtitle F: Procedure and Administration
Subtitle G: The Joint Committee on Taxation
Subtitle H: Financing of Presidential Election Campaigns
Subtitle I: Trust Fund Code
Subtitle J: Coal Industry Health Benefits
Subtitle K: Group Health Plan Requirements

And it probably wouldn't be as long as it is if it didn't contain verbiage like this, which is directly lifted from the IRC:

(C) Special Automobile Carrier Vessels. - The amendments made by section 201 shall not apply to two new automobile carrier vessels which will cost approximately $47,000,000 and will be constructed by a United States-flag carrier to operate, under the United States-flag and with an American crew, to transport foreign automobiles to the United States, in a case where negotiations for such transportation arrangements commenced in April 1985, and definitive transportation contracts were awarded in May 1986.

The Code is full of shit like that, and if the Republicans had ever read the Constitution they'd recognize about two thirds of Title 26--you know, the parts Republicans put in to draw campaign contributions--qualify the Title as one very long bill of attainder.
