Up to 500 layoffs planned for BASF

BASF Corp. is laying off up to 500 workers at its plant in Geismar as part of a restructuring plan that will save up to $40 million annually.

In addition to the Geismar layoffs, the company is trimming its work force at a plant in Freeport, Texas, by up to 180 positions.

The Geismar plant employs 1,400 company workers and contractors. The Freeport plant employs 1,000 BASF workers and contractors.

BASF said the cuts in labor and savings are part of an ongoing restructuring plan first announced in August that targets total savings of at least $250 million companywide.

and you, as consumers, really have no need to know our name,
but we, along with northrop/grummond, lockheed, boeing, and others,
buy commercial time to have leverage on the content of the news you see.

dems need to start pressing the fact that a raising DJIA and NASDQ doesn't mean shit to a recovery if jobs keep getting cut - all it means is that a few rich friends of smirkco are getting richer....
