'Al-Qaeda' offers gold for deaths
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3692079.stm

Rewards of gold are on offer for the killings of top US and UN officials, according to an audio message purportedly from Osama Bin Laden.

The recording said 10kg (22lb) of gold would be given to anyone killing the US Iraq administrator Paul Bremer or senior military officers. The same - worth about $125,000 - was offered for UN chief Kofi Annan or his Iraq envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.

The message was posted on a website known to be used by Islamist militants. Observers say the statement used language similar to previous statements from the al-Qaeda leader, laden with Koranic verse.

But they add that he has never before offered rewards for missions which he considers to be a religious duty.

2. This, whether true or not, again illustrates the point that
A very few determined terrorists could effectively defeat "all the kings horses..." How can you possibly defend yourself against this?
Hard to say, but one could certainly say that fighting a meaningless war against the citizens of Iraq isn't the answer.

3. So if we were in Afghanistan instead of Iraq
I think Reichsfuhrer Bush and Obersturmfuhrer Rumsfeld wish they had continued the hunt for Osama bin Laden instead of their little day trip to Iraq. If you turned 135,000 troops loose in Afghanistan looking for a 6'5" Saudi hooked up to a dialysis machine who likes to ride horses things would be a lot different right now.
