Bush campaign criticizes Kerry's wife for calling Cheney 'unpatriotic'

Friday, May 7, 2004
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(05-07) 07:34 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --

President Bush's campaign on Friday criticized the wife of Democratic candidate John Kerry for calling Vice President Dick Cheney "unpatriotic" while defending her husband's service in Vietnam against critics who had avoided the military.

"This political line of attack is offensive and should be stopped," Bush-Cheney campaign chairman Marc Racicot said in a statement.

Although they have questioned Kerry's Senate votes on defense and foreign policy, neither Bush nor Cheney has commented personally on his service in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Bush served stateside in the Texas Air National Guard during the war while Cheney received five deferments from military service.

In an interview with Telemundo, NBC's Spanish-language network, Teresa Heinz Kerry said, "To have a couple of people, who escaped four, five, six times and deferred and deferred and deferred calling him anything regarding his service is in and of itself unpatriotic. Unpatriotic." NBC's "Nightly News" aired part of the interview Thursday.

8. Racicot got it wrong- here's the quote:
"In an interview with Telemundo, NBC's Spanish-language network, Teresa Heinz Kerry said, "To have a couple of people, who escaped four, five, six times and deferred and deferred and deferred calling him anything regarding his service is in and of itself unpatriotic. Unpatriotic." NBC's "Nightly News" aired part of the interview Thursday."

Mrs. Kerry was chastising "unnamed" people who sought multiple deferments for criticizing her husband's service record. I don't see any mention personally of Cheney..

"A Guilty conscience needs no accuser!" (my quote)

10. You go, girl!
I love Theresa Kerry already, I even forgive her for being a Rethuglican until her husband decided to run for president. I don't care if I agree with her or not, she's going to make the type of sick right winger who wants women to be sad and beaten creatures very uncomfortable.

Loose cannon? Hell no. She's on my list of possible dinner party guests (a very exclusive list). I can't think of any Rethuglican shell of a political wife who qualifies.

26. When I saw it on television last night,
the remarks quoted in your post were followed by "I refer to the Vice President."

And I liked her directness. Cheney and numerous GOP minions have been attacking Kerry everywhere, including in Congress, so I'm all for Teresa's calling them on their bullshit.

They really can't take it when our side dishes out a teaspoonful of what they've been pouring out in buckets. Whiners.

2. Everything they do is unpatriotic
Censorship, lies to justify a war, and their comment that anyone who critisizes "them" is unpatriotic.

This whole country is insane.

What used to be the right thing to do, is now portrayed as wrong!

5. It just really bothers the RWs
to have an intelligent woman speak up.

Guess she should take a lesson from that mealy mouthed, dripping honey all the time, first lady Laura Bush.

This is just the start of attacks on Teresa Heinz Kerry.

Funny they didn't ask anyone to stop when this line of attack was being used to support their policies!

Unbe-frickin'-lievable. And you just KNOW that Racicot isn't done calling other people unpatriotic in this race.

12. here's the thing
and one of the many differences between Dems and Reps...

THEY are much better at being subtle about their shots. They do everything but use the word unpatriotic. Then, when we complain they say, ah show us where we ever used the word unpatriotic. Sure, its the only natural outcome of the argument we are making lol but prove it!

We on the other hand, just come out and say it.

... it is just all right but when we do it its 'political'.

What a f*cking bunch of whining pissants. You f*ckers just wait, it won't be long until "unpatriotic" will sound like praise compared to what half the world is calling you.

Idiots.

15. Cheney Is No Patriot
He is a mere profiteer and reactionary. As he supported the Viet Nam war, he is a draft-dodging hypocrite, and deserves nothing but to be called honestly by the titles he has earned.

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

16. Hmm. Would they prefer 'coward'? Or 'chickenhawk'?
I think those would be even more appropriate.

Unbelievable gall. They've spent the last 4 years calling anyone who voted against them on anything from tax cuts to drilling in ANWR traitors. Tell Rove to go fuck himself.

23. Has there ever been bigger assholes in politics?
Used to be that Nixon was held up as the example of the worst.. but Bush and Cheney are, by far, the biggest asshole-subhuman-dicks in history.

HOW DARE they attack Mrs. Kerry when SHE was defending her husband against THEIR attacks on HIS military service. Bush, as predicted by a presidential historian, WILL go down in history as the worst president.. ever.

25. Did Cheney or Heinz do business with Saddam in 1998???
In addition to trucking with the enemy, Cheney publicly advocated rescinding US sanctions against oil-rich "terrorist nations" when he was CEO of Halliburton.

So yes - Cheney IS a Traitor.

Go fuck yourself Racicot.
