World calls for Rumsfeld's resignation over abuse
Outrage over Iraq prison photos increase pressure, condemnation of U.S. actions.

By Robert Barr
Associated Press

London - The image of a U.S. soldier holding a leash attached to a naked Iraqi prisoner brought more condemnation of the United States on Friday, and some calls for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

The picture of the soldier, Spc. Lynndie England, appeared on several front pages in Britain. "No sadistic movie could outdo the damage of this image," reporter Robert Fisk wrote in The Independent newspaper.

Much comment focused on Rumsfeld.

"The departure of the Pentagon's bellicose hawk would certainly be good news because it would give the moderate wing, represented by (Secretary of State Colin) Powell, an opportunity to reorient U.S. foreign policy toward multilateralism," Madrid's El Mundo newspaper said.

1. It's only to be expected.
I just read an article on Yahoo News which states, "Americans are now considered to be the most dangerous people on earth". How about that. We've taken the #1 spot, ahead of Al-Qaida, Ansar-al-Islam, and all the rest.

And yes, Rumsfeld deserves a huge part of the blame. Let's hope he goes quickly, and quietly.

Still, I can see him hanging on to the molding of the doorway, as they pull him out of his office, kicking and screaming.

2. When the first domimo falls...

TICK-A

TICK-A

TICK-A

boom

Personally, would like to see Rummy stay and hang like a millstone around this administration's neck and drag them all down.

18. If Rumsfeld goes, they all go
And Rumsfeld WILL go. Now it is more important than ever to pressure your congressmen to do their jobs, and by that I mean to fully investigate these atrocious acts of indecency. FULLY INVESTIGATE. Who authorized these types of interrogations? Who do these people report to?

The Red cross released a report that stated very plainly that these acts of torture are not from a few isolated instances, but are widespread and systemic. So, I would ask again - "Who authorized these sorts of interrogations and who do the interrogators report to? "

Do you see what we have become? In order to fight the war on terror, we have lowered ourselves to nazi style status. We have become what we most abhorred, and Rumsfeld cannot contain the anger. Bush can't remove the stain.

Did he listen?

4. Clinton's Sec Def had to leave over Somalia
Rummy is gone. He is a dead man walking. It's just a question of who loud he screams and how hard he kicks, and how long Bush resists before he realizes political impossibility. - It's like resisting the 9/11 commission. It's just not sustainable.

5. I think that the world has an optimistic sense of what would happen
if Rumsfeld were forced to resign. He'd be replaced by another just like him.

The problem can't be addressed until we get rid of the commander in chief.

6. The Bushco technique
of rousing the mob’s lower emotions is always easy and effective but can be risky. During the last century some leaders using the method were set on by the mob when their wars went bad. Adolph escaped that fate. The great unreachable masses are now awakening and yet have a part to play.

7. It's over for Rummy
After the vids come out, he's gone. I still can't believe it's going to get worse than what we've seen so far, but i guess I shouldn't be surprised.

What a sad day for this country.

9. Do you think Powell has figured out he's the "token black" yet?
Did you hear that Powell didn't know about the extra 25 bil Bush is requesting?

If they keep making him drink at the colored-only fountain long enough, maybe he'll spill his guts.

14. I'm sure he knows he's a token to the B-Admin, but more importantly
he knows that those that the B-Admin are the most frightening collection of Americans to ever have control of the WH. I am currently reading Woodwards book and this point in my read, I am of the opinion that "the token" may be the only barrier stopping the B-Admin from destroying the planet as we know it.

16. Well, there's a token and a spare.
That way, either is expendible.

11. and then what?
Sorry if this is a stupid question. Tried to find the answer myself, but not having any luck.

In the event Rumsfeld is forced to leave, who takes his place? Does Wolfowitz just get bumped up and take over since there is so little time left until the election? Would it go through the nomination process? Is there a protocol for this?

Wow! 'so little time left until the election' - can't tell you how good it felt to type that.

17. does Wolfowitz just get bumped up...?
Hope so. Imagine the ads.

"...there are very clear obligations under the Geneva Convention to treat prisoners humanely, not to humiliate them, and in this case, I think we'll be in a position before long to enforce any violations of the Geneva Convention.

We treat our own prisoners, and there are hundreds of Iraqi prisoners, extremely well. We feed them, we take care of them, they're very safe with us."

lies... lies... and more lies...

19. If Rummy becomes a private citizen again ...
We lose all ability to keep him under the microscope, and possibly indict him to the Hague.

He can become a 'consultant' or a lobbyist, and he's off scot-free to
approve more dirty deeds under the table.

Nope, keep him in the spotlight as the poster child for this group of thuggish frat boys til they ALL go down together.

12. I don't want him gone
let him hang around chimp's neck like a millstone, a reminder of this whole disaster. Once rummy is gone bushco is going to claim they have cleaned up the mess and that someone has been punished for it and then it will be back to business as usual. :puke:

13. Rummy will stay
The chimp's main election year charge against Kerry is "flip-flopping".

Recently, the chimp publicly assured us that Rummy would stay.

To jettison Rummy now, or allow Rummy to jettison himself, would negate their aforementioned strategy.

15. Rumsfeld will become a neocon martyr ...
... Betrayed by his own 'children'. The hearings will be viewed as a Last Supper and the Democrats as Pharisees. Just watch.
