Ashcroft tour to plug terror bill (Victory Act)
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/106872p-96686c.html

Attorney General John Ashcroft is hitting the road to rally support for the Victory Act, which would further expand his powers to go after Al Qaeda and narcoterrorists, the Daily News has learned.

Ashcroft will starting pushing the Vital Interdiction of Criminal Terrorist Organizations Act later this month in a 10-day, 20-state Victory tour that includes a stop in New York.

--snip--

If passed, the feds would be allowed to:

Clamp down on Arab hawala transactions, where cash exchanged in an honor system has been funneled to terrorists.

Get business records without a court order in terrorism probes and delay notification.

Track wireless communications with a roving warrant.

Increase sentences for drug kingpins to 40 years in prison and $4 million in fines.

4. Is Victory Act - the new name for the maligned "PAtriot 2"?
If so - there was such negative reaction to Patriot2 - that this, too, should be defeatable.

22. if Congress doesnt stop this
something is horribly horribly wrong.

The electorate is not going to like this crap at all, Dems could make this a major winner, just by raising Holy Hell. Other than Lieberman and Feinstein i cant think of too many Dems who would support this. I just read where Lee Feinstein is an original PNAC signatory. Is this DiFi's hubby ? I know her husbands company is making 600 million in Iraq on a no-bid contract.

"Victory Act" ?........Jesus.......:puke:

27. No, not at ALL
Unless the article has seriously left out some details.

Apparently this in fact very minor legislation. Nothing like the next Patriot or Homeland security act.

its not the whole ball of wax, but its piece by piece under a different name.

Once rights are taken, we wont ever get them back.

34. I won't agree to that one yet
That may not be all the provisions in the bill and Ashcroft may have his friends push other amendments as well.

Also remember that the Patriot Act was added to the night before the vote, and because of that many Senators never read the whole damn thing.

Just because it doesn't smell like crap now, doesn't mean that it won't get stinky with time.

What disturbs me the most is that Asscrak is the one WRITING LEGISLATION. I thought our legislature was better than just a rubber-stamp parliment . Why is the executive branch doing legislation????

30. notice Orin Snatch is going to introduce this
in the Senate ?

Orin Snatch is the same cretin who tried to make the patriot act permanent by removing the sundown provision.

This proves Snatch is the junta's pivot man in the senate.
