Officer shoots, kills a man wielding gun(Close to my home)

MESA - A Mesa police officer fatally shot a man early Sunday after the man allegedly pointed a gun at the officer.

The man, whose name was not released, was holding two other men at gunpoint in the Inglewood Village Apartments(One block from me) in the 1000 block of South Longmore about 3:15 a.m., said Detective Tim Gaffney, a spokesman for the Mesa Police Depart- ment.

Police knocked on the apartment door because they received a 911 call from a cellphone in which the caller told police, "Some guys are getting ready to come in my apartment and jump me, they're right behind me," Gaffney said.

The door swung open suddenly and the officer, whose name was not released, saw the man pointing a gun at two other men, according to police. Another man, who is believed to have made the cellphone call, also was in the apartment, Gaffney said.
