JERUSALEM - The son of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (news - web sites) must provide police with documents related to a corruption probe into his father's 1999 election campaign, an Israeli court ruled Wednesday.

Police are investigating a $1.5 million loan from a South African businessman to Sharon's two sons, used to cover illegal campaign contributions.

After declining to answer police questions in a July 16 interrogation, Gilad Sharon refused to make the documents available, arguing that an Israeli Supreme Court decision equated the right to remain silent with the right to withhold private papers.
