Printer Will Shut Magazine Plant In Effingham, Ill (Another 800 Jobs Gone) |
|
"Quebecor World Inc. of Montreal, the world's No. 2 commercial printer, said Thursday that it will cut 600 jobs and close a magazine-printing plant in Effingham, Ill., to reduce costs.
Quebecor World said it will record costs of about $25 million linked to the closing.
Equipment will be removed from the plant and installed at other sites, where about 200 new jobs will be created.
The company, which prints Harry Potter books and Time magazine, has shed about 6,000 jobs since 2001 because of sluggish demand, leaving it with 37,000 employees at more than 160 facilities around the world."

This shit just never ends. Last week Bill Moyers did a profile of Rockford, IL, which is rapidly becoming a ghost town from manufacturing job losses.
Is ANYONE who doesn't mess around with a computer all day producing nothing (Me, for example--and I'm sick of it) going to have work in a few years? Scary stuff.
