House OKs Medical Liability Reform
WASHINGTON, DC -- 05/14/2004 -- (Eli Digital) The U.S. House of Representatives once again has approved broad medical liability reform legislation that would apply to nursing homes as well as other health care facilities and providers.

Same story: 'We don't need regulation -- if there's a problem, you can sue' 'There are too many lawsuits -- we need liability 'reform.'

The GOP cause: unrestricted corporate power with no recourse for those harmed.

4. I don't think they've been lowered yet in Texas.
There's always an excuse: "well, a bunch of cases were filed right before the legislation was passed, so we can't lower them yet," and other BS. No one wants to look at the real reason: losses in the stock market.

2. We must withdraw all support from al Senators who don't fillibuster
A no is the same as a yes in this situation and lives of people we care about are in the balance. Your kid is in an accident. A doctor weighs how much you can get if he lets your kid die. That's what this is about. People who die every day in the hospital don't have to die. It's a choice on the part of the doctors. I've seen the choices. I know they make them - based on how much it could cost them.

3. Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Okay, there are people being maimed and killed all over the country because of medical treatment gone bad. Who should be held responsible?

The individual doctors who botch procedures due to bad luck, bad practice, incompetence, or substance abuse? No.

The doctors as a group and a profession who should exercise oversight of their colleagues? No.

The insurance companies that fail to police the profession? No.

The patients who are being maimed and killed, and their advocates in the court system? Bingo!
