Lawsuit Sparks Riot In St. Petersburg FL
http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/news/local/8662516.htm

snip

The shooting of TyRon Lewis brought nights of rioting in south St. Petersburg almost a decade ago and again on Wednesday night into Thursday morning as the trial in his family's lawsuit against the city over his death neared its end.

No one was seriously injured in the most recent disturbances. Twenty people were arrested on a variety of charges, including nine juveniles.

Three people face charges of attempted homicide of a police officer. Police said a car carrying several people fired on an officer but did not hit him.

Several businesses were looted and damaged with firebombs. City officials did not have a damage estimate for the rioting, which erupted along major thoroughfares in the neighborhoods south of Tropicana Field.

4. Right ~ That fact completely diminishes their indignity over an injustice
I understand the rioting and overturning of police cars and possibly even breaking out some windows but when they start looting they destroy any justification for their cause.

7. I am sure you are correct but it reflects on all
Just like the few who torture reflects on all Americans. If we allow it then we will become associated with it.

10. WAIT a minute. This "actions of a few reflecting on all" crap must end.
The broad stroke thingy is just so freakin' WRONG!!!

I despise the neocons,...but know many very decent Republicans.

I despise those who were involved in war crimes,...but know many very decent military folks.

I despise ALL religious extremists,...but know many decent religious people.

I despise greedy corporatists,...but know many decent wealthy individuals.

This broad brush shit is tearing people apart,...not healing or helping or advancing or building anything.

STOP IT!!!

Please.

11. I was in the area that night
I got the impression that some of the arson and looting was directed at the no money down predatory interest rate places. Some arson was alleged to be motivated by efforts to destroy credit contracts or get revenge. One pawn shop that I passed frequently was attacked unsuccessfully and the owner reportedly defended himself with an automatic rifle. This place sold cheap semi-automatic pistols for $199 as I recall.
