Riordan takes himself out of running for Calif. governor
(08-07) 17:52 PDT LOS ANGELES (AP) --

Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan took himself out of the running for governor late Thursday and endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I have decided not to enter the race for governor," Riordan said in a three-paragraph statement.

"This recall election offers us a choice: We can either continue with politics as usual in California, or we can elect someone who works on behalf of every Californian, not just the special interests," he said. "As I have said many times, I believe Arnold Schwarzenegger is a very talented man who would make an excellent governor."

2. Shit
It's starting to look to me like the fix is in... this whole thing just doesn't seem to be playing right for the Dems. I'm not conceding defeat already; it's just not looking good. Perhaps I'm underestimating the bullshit-detecting abilities of Californians, but I'm just seeing shades of St. Ronnie here and feeling a little depressed. I don't buy the "at least he's not a wingnut" justification; where are his qualifications? Here in TX, I've had to hear for yrs. about how * wasn't a wingnut but a "moderate", despite the fact that that claim was totally untrue. Here's hoping "Ahh-nuld" crashes and burns, but it's looking more to me like CA is going to inflict that pain upon themselves by electing the joke.

8. i don't know about
the BS-detecting of Californians but yours is working fine if you ask me.
I smelt this coming when I heard with my own ears Senator 'crybaby' Hatch on the Senate floor endorse this see link below. This has been planned for a while and I'd bet you *Bush's paycheck that they are going for 'Raygun Redux' with this AS for Gov. and yes on too president. That's their goal..... I swear, I think it is! and yes this has the stench of Rove All over it!!

COLUMN: Terminator 4: Election Day
By Kelly Rooney
Daily Illini (U. Illinois)

(U-WIRE) CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Looks like my favorite Utah senator, Orrin Hatch, is up to his old tricks again. Somehow he's found free time in his on-going quest for destroying computers with illegally downloaded music to push for a new constitutional amendment.

The "Hatch Amendment" as it has been dubbed, would allow foreign-born U.S. citizens, who've lived in America for 20 years, to be eligible to run for president.

Though the amendment seems to benefit foreign-born political office holders, Sen. Hatch appears to have one particular Austrian-born friend in mind. Yes, if Orrin Hatch had his druthers our 44th president of the United States would be none other than Arnold "Terminator" Schwarzenegger. Look no farther than California to see how the road to the White House is being paved for the body-building actor.

First off, the amendment conveniently comes in light of the recent Republican campaign to recall California Governor Gray Davis. With a state budget deficit reaching $38 billion, the Democratic Governor's popularity has plummeted, sparking the GOP's push for his recall. Congressman Dan Issa has personally funded the recall by paying $1 million out of his own pocket and getting near 900,000 people to sign the petition for the recall, according to Republican party officials. Once state officials have certified the signatures, a new election will be held as soon as this fall. </snip>

3. Too bad, really
Well, let's face it. If it were just between the two of them, I'd pick Riordan over Swarzenegger any day. Wouldn't you?

5. Issa and now Reardon? Rove must be smiling.
Anybody who believes that Tom DeLay has nothing to do with redistricting in Texas could believe the White House has nothing to do with the California recall.

Didya see Issa sobbing into the microphone?

6. What's this I hear about Davis can't be on the ballot in a recall?
I haven't been paying attention to the rules of the game and now I really want to know what's going on!

I hope the Calif Dems can fight back these demons from hell in the guise of arniethejokeblarney.

10. Yeah, there's obviously someone else running things here!
I mean, Issa sobbing into the microphone ....

Riordan dropping out, expressing surprise at his "friend and neighbor" A.S. declaring himself a candidate ....

It's just weird as all hell.

And obviously the White House (or whoever's really running the White House) behind all of this.

What's pathetic is that Riordan is the best guy for the job.

Obviously someone MUCH more powerful thought otherwise.

It's downright scary.

But -- I'll bet money on this -- Arnie's gonna lose.

11. For the clear Rove-Arnie connection go to MWO
mediawhoresonline. There's ample evidence that this is all orchestrated eversince 2001. Watch for Simon and the other wingnut to drop out as well.
To quote Maher: "Arnie is so moderate that Rove said: "If it weren't for his nazi father, he'd have no credibility at all"
