Gov. Bush's daughter released from drug rehab
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2003/08/08/national1445EDT0608.DTL

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Jeb Bush's daughter completed a drug rehabilitation program Friday and a judge allowed her to go home with her parents.

... The governor refused comment, but his press office released a statement on his behalf.

"Columba and I are pleased that our daughter Noelle has completed this step, and grateful for the treatment she's received," the statement read. "She has worked hard to get here. We are proud of her efforts and love her very much."

1. It is so sweet she she didn't get one of those long sentences her father
reserves for everyone else in her situation. Maybe the best defense to drug charges is to claim to be a long lost relative of the Bushes.

2. That is so sweet.
Now that Gov. Bush has influenced so much leniency toward his daughter, I wonder if Ashcroft will be adding him to his list of officials who are soft on crime.

3. Home with her parents? Hmmmm.
She's not a minor and had her own apartment before. Isn't she about 27 or so?

talk about a light sentence.

8. Good Lord...
...how long was she in rehab? It seems like it's been two years. So much for 28 days.

I'd sure want to escape that reality.

10. noelle must be pissed...
she can never get old enough to legally write herself 'scripts, yet her cousins' bad habits just happen to become legal at age 21.

13. she was on crack....not zanex or heroin.
crack and powder cocaine affect the pleasure sensors of the brain. hence the reason it is so hard to break an addiction to it. i give her a 50/50 shot at recovery if she stays with the 12 steps and takes it seriously. if she slips up, she's going to be someones trick...seriously. she was tradeing zanex for crack, IMHO. none of us at the rehab i work at(one that competes with the one noelle was at btw)thought she was hooked on zanex when she was initially arrested...all of us thought it was crack. people coming off of benzo's dont have that look....

really though...good luck Noelle...stay with the program, lord knows you'll need it....

17. The best Rehab I know of
is a couple of years on a secluded horse-ranch in the north woods. No TV, a music-only radio station, no ciggarettes, and a dog. The first 2 or 3 months will be bad, gotta get over that gourmet-coffee withdrawl too!
She may never want to leave.
But seriously, I wish her luck!

14. If dear, strung-out niece Noelle plays her cards right, ...
keeps that spare rock in a rather humid shoe -- both for safekeeping and presumably a more aromatic smoking experience -- are we looking at possible assignment to Afghanistan as that unsettled region's new drugs czar? ...Nothing less than more gesture to support the unrelentingly "corporate" presidency's fondness for enlightened nepotism, after all.

15. And the first bid is?
Who wants to start the pool as to when she hits the pipe again and ends up back in her cushy "rehab resort"?

16. Exactly, Sheet22
Too many celeb addicts use rehab as a substitue for incarceration. As I recall, Noelle left the hospital and managed to make a buy, which should have sent her directly to jail. I'd be happy to feel sorry for her if she was genuinely trying to get well. But it seems she's using everyone from her family to the courts to rehab as enablers.

it's not her fault that she's being enabled. That enabling is concealing the real nature of her problem from her. If she's protected from the pain she should experience as a consequence of her actions - she won't know there's a problem. It's her family that's enabling - with the help of the court. They're hurting her by doing it. She won't get a clue that she needs help until she suffers her own consequences.

I feel badly for Noelle - maybe because as an addict I relate - and maybe because I have some idea of what it is like to be a girl child in that dreadful family.

I hope she it - recovery that is.
