Trooper accused of sexual assault FBI alleges 'a significant pattern' of pulling over women, groping them
By TRACY JOHNSON AND CLAUDIA ROWE SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTERS
She remembers being scared and confused as she tried to follow his orders. After all, he was a State Patrol trooper, she said, and she'd just been pulled over.
The woman said it didn't completely hit her until after she got home that what the trooper did to her, as she stood there helplessly, was completely "outlandish and absurd."
Yesterday King County prosecutors charged state Trooper Michael Jay Idland with seven counts of sexual misconduct, accusing him of sexually assaulting seven women he'd pulled over for suspected drunken driving near Bellevue.
The 40-year-old trooper is also charged with extortion. Investigators say he offered to burn the paperwork for one woman's drunken-driving arrest if she'd have sex with him.
FBI investigators found that Idland had "a significant pattern" of pulling over women, then groping them underneath their clothing and underwear while pretending to search them, according to court documents. Investigators said two incidents involved penetration.

2. As a state trooper (in another state) |
|
There is enough to blame on this administration. This has more to do with individual behavior and personnel responsibility.

3. Yes I agree to a point ~ The corruption at the top though has set the tone |
|
It starts at the top and trickles down. Unless of course you don't believe in the trickle down theory. People can see how easy it is to get away with stuff if you have the power. This Administration flaunts it.

4. It would be possible to blame |
|
Clinton's affairs for this. People convicted of breaking the law should be punished no matter what their position.

8. Possibly you could tell me what LAW Clinton broke. |
|
As far as I know he was never charged with any Crime or breaking any law. It was all about him lying and we all know a President would never do that. It wasn't even lying under oath because all he did was mislead he never actually lied. He used the definition given to him by the independent council as to what entailed sexual relations and a blowjob was not considered sexual relations according to them.

10. Look at us! We, as a generation, complain about Clinton's.... |
|
influence. So what? What I want everyone to do is to look at the so-called-Saviour in front of you. Is this what you'd thought it would be?! During the time that Clinton was there, i saw more 'Saviour' that our chinmpy could provide. Frankly, i don't think that Clinton broke any laws from his experiencing love.

This is no more Bush's fault than it is Clinton's fault. This is a local issue, and far from a unique one at that. Rogue police officers abusing their position of powers is a problem as old as the job itself. All my life I've heard news reports of troopers sexually harassing women, especially in isolated rural areas. It's a fact of life, not of politics.
