GOP targets incumbent to boost its edge

The Republican Party, in a strategy to increase its hold on Congress, seeks to oust U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, a popular Democratic incumbent in North Florida.

TALLAHASSEE - The White House is hoping to increase the Republican grip on Congress by ousting a popular Democratic incumbent in North Florida who's held the seat for eight years and hasn't faced any serious challengers.

The GOP believes U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd, a Vietnam veteran, is vulnerable in a district President Bush won easily in 2000 and Republicans redistricted two years ago to include many more of their voters.

Boyd's seat is among about seven races targeted by the Republican National Congressional Committee in 2004. ''We admire and respect Congressman Boyd's service record and nobody has ever been critical of his time in the service,'' said RNCC spokesman Bo Harmon. ``We're asking about his time in Congress and why he's voting the way he has.''

VIETNAM VETERAN

The somewhat Democratic, but conservative congressional district stretches westward from the Tallahassee suburbs toward the military-heavy western Panhandle where Boyd counts on support from those who relate to his combat experience in Vietnam. He served as an Army infantry officer in 1970 and 1971.

These Chicken Hawks are just great at attacking Democrats who actually went ahead and served during the Viet Nam war.

1. Well, that will be one black box election...pre-ordained. I would
not be worried about Bush winning this election if I didn't realize the total lack of integrity of these fascists.
