Kimmitt PROVEN a liar...AP Exclusive: Video Film of Wedding Party!!!!
Edited on Sun May-23-04 04:35 PM by AngryWhiteLiberal

RAMADI, Iraq (AP) - The bride arrives in a white pickup truck and is quickly ushered into a house by a group of women. Outside, men recline on brightly colored silk pillows, relaxing on the carpeted floor of a large goat-hair tent as boys dance to tribal songs.
The videotape obtained Sunday by Associated Press Television News captures a wedding party that survivors say was later attacked by U.S. planes early Wednesday, killing up to 45 people. The dead included the cameraman, Yasser Shawkat Abdullah, hired to record the festivities, which ended Tuesday night before the planes struck.

The U.S. military says it is investigating the attack, which took place in the village of Mogr el-Deeb about five miles from the Syrian border, but that all evidence so far indicates the target was a safehouse for foreign fighters.

"There was no evidence of a wedding: no decorations, no musical instruments found, no large quantities of food or leftover servings one would expect from a wedding celebration," Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt said Saturday. "There may have been some kind of celebration. Bad people have celebrations, too."

"The Iraqi people are now free. And they do not have to worry about the secret police coming
after them in the middle of the night, and they don't have to worry about their husbands and
brothers being taken off and shot, or their wives being taken to rape rooms. Those days are
over."——Paul Bremer, Administrator, Coalition Provisional Authority, Sept. 2, 2003

"Iraq is free of rape rooms and torture chambers."——President Bush, remarks to 2003

85. Kimmitt = SS, Senor=Gestapo
It's not only Kimmitt, all of the general officers are loyal to BushCo, and can no longer be trusted by the American people.

They cannot be counted on to follow their oath of defending the Constitution, and the military may very well be on it's way to becoming the new Praetorian Guard, or maybe the Waffen SS. Not sure
which description is worse

Anyone who has studied history will know what I'm referring to.

6. Bad people have celebrations, too???
That's the best he can do? Kee-rist. And he's in charge?

I loved the spin on NPR last week. They reported the military found "weapons, cash, passports, and satellite equipment." Well, duh. At a wedding, imagine that, they had cash, probably gifts, and passports, which is what they all use for ID. Weapons? Yeah, in case you've been under a rock, they fire weapons into the air in celebration. Satellite equipment? It turned out later to be phones, which is the only reliable way to communicate now. I assumed someone was unfortunate enough to have a satellite dish on their house so they could watch TV, whenever the electricity decided to kick in.

These people are a horror show. Make it stop.

126. To these people the whole world is black and white
It's like they're living in a fucking John Wayne movie! "Bad people have celebrations too," that's the calling card of this administration. We're the "good people" and everyone else are "bad people." No one in this administration will admit to any mistakes - EVER! This whole freaking war has been one cluster fuck after another. We're there because of intelligence mistakes. But to Bushco, there are no mistakes made by Americans. When American soldiers get caught doing something wrong - it's a "few bad apples." If the American people wake up and start to accept this AP story, Kimmet will pass the blame to someone else - saying, "well our intelligence reports told us these were terrorists . . ." Waking up each day, reading the news, is like living in some horrible nightmare! I thought we had learned our lesson in Vietnam. I can't stand this. When are the Amiercan people going to wake up?

does anyone know what the customs for an iraqi wedding are?

There is no food in the pictures I have seen so why is Kimmitt assuming a gorge fest with big haired girls in tacky dresses?

Riverbend said that Iraq was awash with bullets on the day Hussein was captured. For hours people fired guns into the air, and they weren't shot.

Jesus, how much more weight can be given to the evidence that the US killed 45 civilians during a wedding? Seems like the preponderance of effort should be on the US military to prove it otherwise, but all I've seen so far is the typical "take our word for it" excuse.

15. Who ya gonna believe? Your lying eyes or General Kimmitt?
A couple of weeks ago, America saw a video of Nick Berg being murdered in an orange suit resembling US prison garb, in a room the same colour and texture as Abu Ghraib, and could hear an American voice at the end of the tape. And US authorities change their story, and say he was never in their custody.

For 40 years, America's had video that suggests John F Kennedy was shot from the front.

Who notices? Who cares? What is ever done about it?

And if these were such bad people, why haven't we heard of any arrests?
They had ground troops on the scene. Did they just think they killed everyone? They took NO ONE into custody and as far as I know still haven't. None of the survivors have been charged with anything (that I have read about )

35. i've thought about this a lot, and i think i know why. Kerry hasn't stood
against the war, and the liberals who would have protested are holding their breath waiting for the election because they don't want to introduce fracture to the unity we have at the moment. there is so much confusion, truthfully, over whether it would be better for us to leave as fast as possible or stick it out somehow... at this point, i say leave. just get out and force the UN's hand.

118. I sent an email to my Congresswoman today about the Wedding...
...and to think there are still Repukes who are calling in to talk shows all "outraged over the outrage" and wanting to be outraged about Nick Berg....I am sorry for the pain of the Berg family, what happened to their son was awful...

Imagine the pain of these people and the Mother who saw her two sons blown up, one of them being "decapitated" by American soldiers...

But maybe some were born

I'm feeling so disillusioned and betrayed right now that, I question how I would react if there ever was another "terrorist" attack on this country. For the first time, I imagine I would react that such an event was fully anticipated,...and, given the number of war crimes that this administration has committed,...completely incited by the freon neocons. That makes me sad,...but, mostly, leaves me feeling numb.

42. Hard to believe someone so dense could rise to the rank
of Brigadeer General.

This guy had to know (or damn well should have known) that the evidence was out there and that it was uncontrovertable. Why on earth would continue to escallate the controvery with terse denials?

Had he simply offered some apology and mouthed some platitudes about "collateral damage" and the "fog of war," all this would be swept under the rug by the corporate media....

The only conclusion I can think of is that he's taking orders and stating what others are telling him to. What a stain on his honor (assuming he ever had any).

48. Heart-rending
I'm done withholding judgement about this story. TWO wedding musicians killed should be enough.

snip>

As expected, women are out of sight - but according to survivors, they danced to the music of Hussein al-Ali, a popular Baghdad wedding singer hired for the festivities. Al-Ali was buried in Baghdad on Thursday.

Prominently displayed on the videotape was a stocky man with close-cropped hair playing an electric organ. Another tape, filmed a day later in Ramadi and obtained by APTN, showed the musician lying dead in a burial shroud - his face clearly visible and wearing the same tan shirt as he wore when he performed.

snip>

The stories from the fleeing families are unbearable, including an American soldier kicking a wounded woman, and laughing.

This war is destroying our country.

War atrocities can be committed by anyone given to suggestion and institutionalized dehumanization of people. Nazi Germany = perfect example.

Pictures of "Victoms of the Truth"

Iraqi girl Kholood, 2, lies in a bed in the hospital in Ramadi, 110 km west of Baghdad, Iraq (news - web sites), Sunday May 23, 2004. Kholood was injured by shrapnel into her back when U.S. helicopters fired on a wedding party in the remote desert near the border with Syria, killing more than 40 people, Wednesday May 19, 2004. Kholood lost her parents and four of her brothers and sisters during the attack. (AP Photo/Anja Niedringhaus)

Iraqi children celebrate during a wedding ceremony shortly before U.S. helicopters fired on the party, in the remote desert area near Mogr el-Deeb, Iraq (news - web sites), 600 km west of Baghdad and 20 km from the Syrian border, in this image made Sunday, May 23, 2004 from a Wednesday May 19 video obtained by the Associated Press. The attack killed more than 40 people, including Yasser Shawkat Abdullah, the cameraman who filmed the video. The U.S. military says it is investigating the attack and that evidence so far indicates the target was a safehouse for foreign fighters. (AP Photo/APTN)

How DARE Kimmet waddle around, like Bush, like the others, pointing condescendingly at others and labelling them, "bad guys."

Evil, bad? Based upon what information? @$$####$! Don't wan't 'em there? Hell, kill 'em.

I can't believe grown people are using such childish, retarded ways of trying to smear and devaluate entire masses of people, to make it seem appropriate to murder them.

"Wedding video" clouds US denials

A videotape has been broadcast which purports to show before-and-after footage of a wedding which Iraqis say the US attacked, killing about 40.
The film, broadcast by Associated Press Television News, knits together a home movie of a wedding and APTN video of the aftermath of Wednesday's attack.
Some victims and survivors of the air strike appear to be present in the footage of the wedding celebrations.
The US has insisted its target was not a wedding but foreign fighters.

Click on the link under "watch and listen" (upper right of the page) to see the video.

The report by BBC corespondent Michael Bushanan is also worth viewing (the link right under the wedding video link).

120. It's so sick...see this story description and account of the incident by..
...the sister-in-law of the groom...she lost two of her children...and then check out Gen Kimmit's comments:

"The bombing started at 3am," she said yesterday from her bed in the emergency ward at Ramadi general hospital, 60 miles west of Baghdad. "We went out of the house and the American soldiers started to shoot us. They were shooting low on the ground and targeting us one by one," she said. She ran with her youngest child in her arms and her two young boys, Ali and Hamza, close behind. As she crossed the fields a shell exploded close to her, fracturing her legs and knocking her to the ground.

She lay there and a second round hit her on the right arm. By then her two boys lay dead. "I left them because they were dead," she said. One, she saw, had been decapitated by a shell.

"I fell into the mud and an American soldier came and kicked me. I pretended to be dead so he wouldn't kill me. My youngest child was alive next to me."

As Mrs Shihab spoke she gestured with hands still daubed red-brown with the henna the women had used to decorate themselves for the wedding. Alongside her in the ward yesterday were three badly injured girls from the Rakat family: Khalood Mohammed, aged just a year and struggling for breath, Moaza Rakat, 12, and Iqbal Rakat, 15, whose right foot doctors had already amputated.

We took ground fire and we returned fire," said Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, deputy director of operations for the US military in Iraq. "We estimate that around 40 were killed. But we operated within our rules of engagement."

Major General James Mattis, commander of the 1st Marine Division, was scathing of those who suggested a wedding party had been hit. "How many people go to the middle of the desert ... to hold a wedding 80 miles (130km) from the nearest civilisation? These were more than two dozen military-age males. Let's not be naive."

When reporters asked him about footage on Arabic television of a child's body being lowered into a grave, he replied: "I have not seen the pictures but bad things happen in wars. I don't have to apologise for the conduct of my men."

Iraq Wedding Film Challenges U.S. on Air Strike
Mon May 24, 2004 04:31 AM ET

By Tom Perry
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - New video showing Iraqis singing and dancing at a desert wedding begged more questions on Monday about a U.S. air strike last week that killed about 40 people.

The U.S. military has insisted most of the dead were foreign guerrilla fighters who had slipped over the nearby Syrian border. Local people say the Americans massacred wedding guests.

Associated Press Television News said it obtained the footage from a survivor of the strike early on May 19.

The U.S. military says troops found no signs of a wedding in the wreckage left at the remote hamlet of Mogr al-Deeb. But a spokesman, Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, conceded on Saturday that six women were killed in the strike and a celebration may have been taking place: "Bad people have parties too," he said.

The film shows pick-up trucks racing across the desert -- many of the dead came from the regional capital Ramadi -- men dancing in a tent, children playing and a musician playing an electric organ. The same man later appeared dead in a shroud.

138. In an effort to minimize the fallout from the prison abuse story
the Bush administration has been trying to assure everyone that we believe in justice and that the guilty parties will be punished.

Then we go out and maintain the fiction that it was not a wedding party even when a video showing without doubt that it was a wedding party is being shown throughout the world.

U.S. credibility has now dropped below zero and is in minus territory.

AP , RAMADI, IRAQ
Tuesday, May 25, 2004,Page 1

The bride arrives in a white pickup truck and is quickly ushered into a house by a group of women. Outside, men recline on brightly colored silk pillows, relaxing on the carpeted floor of a large goat-hair tent as boys dance to tribal songs.

The videotape obtained Sunday by Associated Press Television News (APTN) captures a wedding party that survivors say was later attacked by US planes early Wednesday, killing up to 45 people. The dead included the cameraman, Yasser Shawkat Abdullah, hired to record the festivities, which ended Tuesday night before the planes struck.

The US military says it is investigating the attack, which took place in the village of Mogr el-Deeb about 8km from the Syrian border, but that all evidence so far indicates the target was a safe house for foreign fighters.
