New York police says unaware of new terror plot
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N26580846.htm

NEW YORK, May 26 (Reuters) - The New York Police Department said it has not been advised that terrorists are in the United States actively plotting an attack, despite new reports on Wednesday of possible attacks in the coming months.

"We are receiving highly sensitive intelligence information on a regular basis, including today, and there is nothing in that reporting to indicate a specific threat or looming attack against New York City," New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said in a statement issued late on Tuesday in response to media reports.

"Nor have we been advised that terrorists are known to be in the United States actively plotting such an attack," Kelly said.

Police were nevertheless "taking all necessary precautions," he added, on the presumption "it is still the desire of al Qaeda to target New York City."

1. nothing but a publicity stunt . . .
I doubt very much that they have any new information about potential terrorist activities in the US . . . they just created an excuse to raise the alert level to orange, so it will be an easy jump to red whenever they need it . . . that's when all of our rights get suspended and they can do whatever they want, including cancelling elections . . . count on a red alert before November . . .

2. Once again: Busheviks either incompetent or malevolent
Take your pick.

For myself I no longer have a high enough opnion of the Imperial Family and their Stooges to consider that they are incompetent!

3. makes one wonder how "valid" the information
might be - no rise in color coding - no information to specific agencies - but let's do press conferences for the Crisco Kid and sidekick Mueller.

What is really going on here?

Disinfo? Truth? How can one sort the bullshit from the real?

If this mal-administration had any credibility, it would be nice. But instead, we have a pack of lying liars and their mouthpieces.

At least with Saddam's Dis-Info Minister, you knew that the truth was missing entirely.

5. biggest threat since 9/11
how would they know? They ignored all the information leading up to that attack and have since fired or driven off anybody that could make a legitimate comparison.

New York City is and has been on Orange Alert since 9/11, as is Washington D.C. and I'm sure other cities.

The NYPD is pissed as hell at the Chimp Administration. I'm glad they are publicly saying that they are either not getting information or the alert is a political stunt.

7. Great point.. key staff was replaced by very low level staff..
That was one scary thing I read about the exodus and firings of key staff.. that most of the positions were being filled by people with very little experience, and sometimes administrative assistant level staff filling in for key positions.

This whole story is just a sham... a way to show off their "new and improved" response to terror threats, in time for the elections. They're anticipating the fallout of the 9/11 report saying that they were ignorant, arrogant, inneffectual, and allowed 3k people to die because Bush and CHeney's political advisors bad advice (i.e. scuttle the Hart/Rudman Report for political reasons).

6. the boogie man
no more, no less. trot him out WHENEVER it serves. around every corner, in every foreign land.

we can never count them. we can never account for them. we can never destroy them. worse than "cold war". the perfect enemy for a war industry that needs more war to prosper.

and yes, there have always been terrorists, and there always will be. the problem is they have corrupted the entire threat-vulnerability-risk-countermeasures process.

10. Mueller and Ashcroft were going on and on about coordination.
I forget the exact quote, but much was made of the coordination among state, local and federal officials in the new homeland security measures, and how improved things were these days.. Then the NY cops come out and say this. No prizes for guessing which group I find more credible at this point.

When the hell is the administration going to tell anybody anything other than "Be afraid. Be very afraid"?

13. Why should those on the front lines be informed?
Unless this is merely a PR ploy to frighten the citizens.
