Crist Opens Inquiry Into Price Of Gasoline
Wow!!! You can tell it's an election year. Of course he's a republican, but still, I'm happy that someone's making a little noise about the high prices.

1. I Need to Get New Glasses....
I thought your headline read "Christ Opens Inquiry Into Price Of Gasoline".

Which makes sense, since the price increase is unholy....

:-)

3. this whole "we have to investigate!" thing annoys me
The entire approach is founded on the assumption that high gas prices *must* be some kind of unnatural abberration. "We'll just get to the bottom of this and find out who those scoundrels are who are making gas prices high!"

In my mind, it's on about the same level as Schwartzenegger's facile promise to "open the books".

Some problems are deep and systemic, with no easy fixes. Oil/gas shortages are one, just like budget deficits.

4. It's still too early to tell if he's serious
or just posturing for the upcoming election. Remember that Florida has a lot of retirees on fixed incomes, and they have time to call their politicians and complain. So, it could be knee-jerk, could be serious.

5. Serious or not, it's ridiculous

Here in AZ, Gov. Napolitano (D) has also launched one of these investigations.

On this particular issue, it seems that democrats aren't being any more sensible than republicans. Actually, Kerry spoke some of the best sense I've heard out of anyone recently:

"For decades, we have been stuck on a never-ending energy crisis rollercoaster. Gas prices rise and people talk about the need for a new energy policy. When gas prices drop, people drop the issue. If unrest erupts in the Middle East, people talk about the need to be independent of foreign oil. When prices drop and stability returns, we turn to another topic. It is time to get off this ride and chart a new course to energy independence."
